Recommended for ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
People who enjoy sweet romance moments, love triangles, team spirit and light conflict would love this. It's your typical Korean high school flick with all the usual elements that make a child friendly romance drama. If you're feeling tired of deep, dark plots and reality hitting too hard, relax your heart and your mind with this very brainless, bingable, ROMANCE, sports, creation.

Negatives ---------------------------------------------------
- The acting is not very good.
- Even though the plot wasn't original they could have given it an original twist, but they didn't.
- There is a SMALL character development but not really memorable.
- The pace was uncomfortable things were happening in a very hasty manner.
- It's supposed to be a drama focusing on sports but the romance stole the spotlight.
- Some scene cuts were very random
- The characters were hollow

Positives ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+ It was ridiculously easy to binge watch.
+ The romance scenes were cute even though they were kind of random.
+ Even though the script could have used more work, the shots were pretty good.
+ This can still be enjoyed if you want to rest your brain and just smile.

Summary ==============================
Each episode is about 15 minutes and there are 20 episodes in total. If this was a 30 min episode drama, it would get cut down to about 10 episodes, which is more than enough to get a good story across and introduce the characters well enough for us to feel and sympathize with them. Sadly, this drama does NOT do that.

For a 2016 drama it is pretty out-dated and it has countless cliché scenes that have been done too many times before. There is a fine line between cheesy re-runs and classic heart flutter.

The acting was not that good but I feel like the writers are to blame for that. The characters were not very well developed and most of them didn't even have a back story, which I feel is kind of sad. A deeper connection with the people in focus would have lifted this series so much.

I will not allow the lack of episodes or time, excuse the fact that this drama lacks in detail. Instead of all the unnecessary romance scenes or unneeded conflict, they could have given the drama more depth.

So this was a review of ROMANCE with a sprinkle of volley boll

ENJOY!

...Because "Summer dream"....

A very cliché and unoriginal movie but it was an okay watch. I think it would have been better if they had made it into a drama. That way they could have made it more original with some more depth and development. The characters were hallow and didn't really have a purpose or back story. No visible development in personalities or relationships even though it was necessary to make the story believable. All in all the watcher is basically just scraping off the surface.

As for the tags, I wouldn't press too much on the comedy part. It's not a sad movie or anything, it's just not funny.

I skipped the last 20 minutes of the movie because it was the climax and it had them play the title song for the movie AGAIN. Had they not played the same song for 1 h and 40 mins already, I would have watched it.

It's definitely a music movie but I think they should have extended the soundtrack a bit because as a viewer I got extremely bored of it extremely fast.

The acting was not bad. Although none of the characters had facial expressions it wasn't something that bothered me. For all the Jay Park fans out there, although he had a supporting role, he did a good job for someone who doesn't usually act.

I recommend this movie to people who want something a bit more serious but not too deep or emotional. If your feelings are easily moved then maybe this will be enough stimulation for you. If you're a fan of old school K- pop groups I think you wont get tired of the soundtrack and you might enjoy the show.

ENJOY!!

...Because he stole my imaginary golf ball...

This movie has a very soothing and calming feel to it even though it contains so many heart racing events. The two leads have no lines through out the entire film, but they really didn't need any with the amazing soundtrack and the wonderful acting. Their expressions really said it all.

For those who are watching because of the mature tag; The mature tag is there because of violence not because of sex.

Do not fear the violence though, they do not display it carelessly so even a softy like me could watch it without a problem. There will be some exposure to blood though so sensitive watchers have been warned.

I recommend this movie to people who enjoy the art of film. It has a very slow pace and as I said before, most of the scenes have no dialogue, therefore this type of motion picture might appear boring unless you find the beauty in it.

ENJOY!!

... Because the passion level went from 0 to 9000 in a second...

Note to all the confused people:

This is NOT a movie about homosexuals, it is NOT YAOI and it is NOT BL.

This is a movie about two straight males who perform method acting to become closer with their roles. In other words they do things to trick their own mind into being who they portray in the play.

This will start off very innocently with a veteran actor starring in the same theater play as the idol, Young Woo who shows no interest or passion at the first few readings. I honestly don't know why it starts off like that because a few minutes in, he suddenly starts to show a lot of passion and the writers didn't do a very good job explaining the process or the reason. He just suddenly loves it which is why this movie got a 9/10.

But once you get passed that...

This movie starts off very bright and innocent with a comfortable pace that gives off kind of a dreamy feel. The writers succeeded very well in making a calm atmosphere for the viewer without using dragged out scenes or unnecessary shots. It wont leave the audience soothed for too long before it takes a dramatic and dark turn that will keep you at the edge of your seat.

The way the writers have mixed the main leads dialogues with their characters dialogues is the most genius thing I have ever experienced. It makes it difficult to tell if the person is acting as their theater persona or if they actually mean what they're saying. Because the characters themselves are not sure whether they are acting or not, reality and theater slowly sink into one another and become one world of confusion.

There will be a few kissing scenes between the two male leads but this shouldn't be something to warn about. it helps convince the viewer of the feelings involved and gives a harder impact once we near the climax so do not fear it.

I recommend this to people who like watching mind twisting and dark movies. You will definitely have to pay attention and try to understand both the actors and the characters. This is not a light watch but rather something to prepare your heart for.

ENJOY!!!

A generous 3/10....

.... because I have never experience frustration like this, ever before.

I don't even know where to start, to be honest.......

+ Positives
- Negatives
= Summary
~ I recommend this to...

Let's get this death over with

+++++++ POSITIVES +++++++++

+ The acting was good. I think the whole cast did a good job portraying their roles even though their characters weren't that well made to begin with.

+ The relationships between the characters are amazing. Some supporting characters had a beautiful romance bloom from innocent caring and that's a kind of purity you don't see often in modern day dramas.

+ There were definitely some funny moments in this drama that made me chuckle or smile or sometimes laugh out loud. The comments and the way the characters are interacting with each others, was at times, very entertaining and gave them a very special bond.

+ The story took turns that some other dramas avoid because of the great risk that the audience disapproves. In my opinion, risky moves like killing off characters or confusing the hearth is a good way to capture the audience and make them feel something.

----------------- NEGATIVES -------------------------

- All the characters have a character development except for the, dense, ignorant, clumsy, slow, innocent, annoying, female lead. She doesn't do anything except make things harder for everyone else in this drama and she was the one who needed the development the most. I think the writers got too stuck in victimizing here, there was no space left to make her human.

- The story does not follow it's original so this version has enough plot holes to make cheese with holes in it, feel ashamed of itself.

- The story builds up way too much into something that doesn't even climax. I was severely disappointed with the twists and obstacles that were constantly introduced. I have to admit that some twists were really sweet and really good but for the majority of the time it was dog noise.

- Some of the dialogue didn't make sense.

- The CG was worse than some, early 2000 Japanese horror films, I've seen

- The focus was in the wrong place most of the time. The way the creators proceeded the story made it seem like things were only happening to support their romance, instead of their romance being something that bloomed from the incidents. A bit like those high school movies where something completely illogical happens just to make the main couple share a room and create tension. This drama would have been a lot better if the romance was a part of the story and not the center of it.

- The romance in itself was a never ending tug-of-war which is the result of having it in the spotlight. When you want to focus on something but there isn't enough content, it ends up repeating itself.

okay, enough!

========== SUMMARY ============

For the most part, I was disappointed watching this. Even though it did really well with character interactions and relationships, not to mention the great chemistry provided by the actors, the writers failed at their most crucial points. The plot. Even though this is based on a novel, I think the writers took the opportunity to free style a bit, which was a huge mistake on their part. Their desire for wanting more than they could achieve, resulted in major plot holes and a lot of build up without climax.

~~~~~~~~~ I RECOMMEND THIS TO ~~~~~~~~~~~
People who like romance no matter the quality of the story. Even if this is more of a spicy romance with some action, tragedy and blood, the main focus here is love and it comes in all sorts of varieties. If you're easily scared; there will be some blood but this should not be considered a horror drama. If you've ever seen a bad horror movie and made it through, you'll be fine watching this.
ENJOY!!
..... Because eating it is okay...
I don't have anything to complain about so this review will look a bit different from my usual...
Alright let's go!
The acting was great and the casting was surprisingly uplifting. I think they picked great actors for each and every one of the characters and they all did a perfect job. I have to admit that Winry could have been a bit more realistic. Even though it's been a while since I watched the Fullmetal Alchemist anime, I do not remember her being this girly and passive.... anyway...
The CG that we all feared is actually the best I've ever seen, coming from japan. it did have some minor misses here and there but it didn't bother me as much as other CG movies have in the past. Most of the effects were very beautifully done and they did a great job with the Gate of Truth and Al. I am so impressed and moved!
Going into the story, they did a very good summary of A PART of the Manga/ anime. It's a given that a live action movie with a 2 h running time wont be the exact copy of it's original but thankfully they did not change that much. I personally think the writers did a great job staying within their limits and keeping it familiar to FMA fans such as myself.
I really want to give extra credit to the director for his beautiful art work with this live action. It's been a while since I saw a movies as passively beautiful as this one. Some scenes were just shot in the perfect place with the perfect light during the perfect situation from just the right angle and it gave me such strong impressions.
I'm not a crier but I cried and I will let you guess which scene that caused it. Prepare for a challenge because the creators did an amazing job with relaying emotions here. Everything I felt okay with watching in the anime provoked such strong feelings in this adaption and that is one of the most important things to get right when making a movie.
Hopefully this will get a sequel because the writers did not end the journey after the end credits. which was a very wise decision in my opinion. Had they tried to finish the whole story within the run time of this movie, it would have felt rushed and everything would have felt out of place. I am also pretty sure we would have lost a whole lot of detail and plot resulting in another AoT failure.
I have a lot more to say but I will end my review here.
============SUMMARY===============
This adaption is one of the best I have ever seen of a Manga/ Anime and I think it was amazingly executed with great CG, great actors and accurate roles with all their relationships and situations intact. The camera work was art and all the emotions were properly relayed to the audience. Luckily, the writers were wise enough to only cover a part of the story in this movie so let's hope the sequel is released soon!
ENJOY!!!
Honestly this was my first Thai drama so I might be a little biased but it was seriously so good. I loved the dynamics between the main leads and the story kept me interested. I would rewatch this in a heartbeat... actually i have already rewatched it 2 times. I enjoyed it :) If I were to change something about it I would make it longer. I also enjoyed the misunderstandings and side stories. This show kept me on the edge of my seat for hours and I think one night I even stayed up till 4:00 am. LOL
This drama had much potential in the beginning and was much anticipated one....I liked the drama but there were certain flaws...it could not be denied
Likes :
1. The casting was awesome...each and every character was lovely....especially buja character was so good and funny at the beginning
2. The lead pair were good
3. Mainly the BROMANCE was great...it was enough for me to watch this show...lee seung gi and cha seung won stole the show as son oh gong and ma wang
4. The ending was nice...i think a different ending would not suit it (i don't want to spoil it)
5. The ost were good....especially "when i saw you"
Dislikes:
1. The villain role was absolutely nothing ....it was too boring
2. The story had many unnecessary side stories
3. There were many plot holes
Overall it was 8/10 for me.....had a nice time watching it....
This was my very first drama and i am glad that i started with such a wonderful one....I watched it 3 to 4 years ago and still this is my most favourite drama....i can rewatch it any number of times and doesn't get bored at all....
Story:
The story line may somewhat seem cliche to many people but that is what makes it so memorable and best...It keeps you always fresh and never disappoint you even in one episode....The development of love between the leads is so realistic and lovely....some people may have second lead syndrome at first (even i had it) but subsequently you will start to like the main lead more....
Acting:
The main reason for this show to get so much popularity is definitely because of the casting... They were apt to the name you're beautiful... And also they did a great job in portraying their roles....Especially Jang geun suk was awesome as Hwang tae kyung...
Music :
This was my first time getting inspired from lyrics and music of another language.... the ost " Without Words" was just awesome..... still one of my favourite ost...also all the other ost were good...since this was a musical drama i had great expectations for music and it definitely satisfied me
Rewatch :
I can definitely say you can rewatch this any number of times without getting bored...such an amazing drama
Overall :
It is a 10/10 for me....I cannot say it is the best drama generally (for me it is the best) but it will surely be a memorable and close to heart one....you will surely enjoy it...
After a long time i enjoyed a drama so much.....this drama had all the elements like fun, mystery, romance,comedy, fantasy,....I really loved the way the story went on....I just saw a clip in facebook and then started watching it....
Though the storyline was sometimes predictable it was really enjoyable at the same time....it makes you laugh too much and at the same time makes you cry....
My very first drama was "YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL" and till now it is the most special drama to me....I was searching for a long time for a similar drama and this drama felt somewhat similar like (male lead being arrogant, development of love between the leads, 3 boys and 1 girl staying together and caring for each other,....) If you liked YB you will surely like this though the plots are completely different...
Likes:
1.All the charecters were portrayed lovingly
2. Love development between the leads was good
3. There were many fun elements which made the show awesome
Dislikes:
1. The villain role was somewhat lagging
2. The story was sometimes predictable
This is my first time writing a review for a drama....this drama was really awesome so that i liked to share my thoughts on it....
Hwayugi proves that I should never pick up anticipated or over-hyped dramas. While touting a star studded cast, a legendary production team and adored source material, this drama left a lot of potential on the table.
After a few very turbulent weeks for the production crew including blatant CGI issues, debacles in this drama’s airing schedule and a terrible on set accident that threatened to stop production all together, Hwayugi finally seemed to get somewhat back on course. Even so, this drama was never able to establish a consistent tone or pacing. Most weeks it was a garbled mess with a Monster of the Week format. Each new arc and challenge that our protagonists have to face are all resolved before they can have any greater significance to the lead couple. This setup prevented me from becoming at all vested in the story, its characters and its romance. This drama is chalk full of filler just not a lot of substance here.
This drama’s saving grace is certainly the magical and impish Lee Seung Gi in his role of Son Oh Gong! Here Seung Gi is so charismatic and playful. The only reason I continued to watch this drama, was to see this monkey in his natural environment. Lee Seung Gi truly shines here championing all of his hallmarks. His performance as Son Oh Gong kept me watching even with the subpar plot.
I can’t really recommend this drama due to how it is lacking in its story, pacing and tone, but if you are an avid fan of Lee Seung Gi, you may need to weigh your options again.
It was so cute and funny, I love it!
After being busy for a couple of months, I needed to watch a good drama and this one was perfect! It is light and fluffy, and was a very enjoyable watch. There was not too much drama nor complicated relationships that made me stressful.
It is about how Gu Chengze and Li Yanshu meet each other and gradually start to develop feelings for one another. They start off rough, with the both of them constantly bickering every time they see each other. At first they were enemies and despised each other, then as the story progressed on they began to adapt to each other's living conditions and behaviors (such as Li Yanshu's lying habits). Eventually, they end up living together and it is essentially what drives them closer together.
I liked how the story kept me wondering what was going to happen next, and I was always excited to continue watching. There are many questions that I developed throughout watching the drama, which kept me interested. I laughed a lot while watching this, and I love Tan Songyun. She is such a great actress, and does not disappoint. I have watched several of her works: The Whirlwind Girl, My Mr. Mermaid, and One Smile is Very Alluring. She is so pretty and always makes me laugh. Although I do not know much about Jiang Chao, I feel that he portrayed his character fairly well. His aura in the story does not come out as completely cold and distant to the female lead, there are actually many very cute scenes (and they made me laugh too).
Some have complained that there are too many flashback scenes, and I agree. Especially towards the end of the season, it was a lot more noticeable and I became more aware of how many times they would repeat a scene. However, this did not bother me at all. The season does end off suddenly, but fortunately I watched it after the second season aired so there is no gap or loss in interest from me. I will definitely continue watching. Cannot wait to see what is going to happen!
To start off, this is one of the few dramas that I truly believe deserves 10/10. A Korean Odyssey was a drama that I just planned on waiting to end to wait - until I got sucked in on the very first episode. The story is well written, compelling, emotional, and exceptional. I can't say more aside from how good it was. It's been a while since a drama has gotten me emotional (the last being Scarlet Heart Ryeo) and I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamics of the relationship between Son Oh Gong and Jin Seon Mi. It's always keeping you guessing as a viewer as what's going to happen next, and it's a ride that you don't want to miss a second of. The build up of the conclusion to the drama was must more squished but it didn't stop me one bit from enjoying the drama. If you want a real review, I suggest you write your own after watching this drama. A Korean Odyssey is a drama you have to watch in order to truly understand what makes it so amazing. I can truly say that this drama made a big splash on my list, and it's been a ride that I'll never forget.
This review may contain spoilers
Since the series ended I will give my honest review on this drama. Long post ahead *warning: Spoilers*
WTD really is WTF but in a good and bad way. This story was entertaining while at the same time frustrating. IT;s the kind of drama you watch when there isn't anything else going on, but still find yourself enjoying it. I will admit that I wasn't going to give it a chance but I changed my mind when I watched the second episode, only because it felt refreshing and the actors were so good with their chemistry. It's a must watch in my opinion if you want to take a break from Thai BLs that focus on school boys (I want to burn those darn blue school shorts I swear) and watch something where the actors are age appropriate and totally believable.
Lets talk about the Couples:
Pop and Mo: The same trope in many BL-specially in Thai BLs. Where we have a couple where the girlfriend is annoying or totally incapable of accepting the reality that the relationship she is in, just isn't working and instead of letting it go on good terms, they want to force it. AT first I kind of like their relationship and totally understood why Pop wanted to keep his relationship with Mo going. He truly cared for her and she for him, no doubt about that. However, once their feelings started changing, Mo should have taken a hike and saved her self some headache---She even had a prince waiting for her (that is his name LOL). It's hard to let go of a nearly 4 year relationship, but they were not in the same boat after each had their own careers to think about.
Pop and Oat: These two were seriously cute from the beginning. Oat was at times such a jokester and annoying, but underneath all that was a very sweet boy who didn't have a clue what love truly was and falling for Pop was the best thing that happened to him. Through his weird friendship with Pop, he was able to right his life in a way and redirect his focus from gambling to other things. While their sweet moments were few and slow, I liked the progression because it felt natural instead of forced. Pop still isn't sure about his feelings for Oat, but he knows he feels something for the big jokester. With that said, be prepared for a SLOW progression of their so called relationship*you've been warned*
Pree and Rambo: Talk about dysfunctional relationships! These two take the cake. I have been very critical of these two because I allowed myself to be annoyed by fans of Art the actor and how they think his character was being "used and abused" and it was really disappointing to see how people can't differentiate between fiction and reality. Art may be the cutest thing on this earth, but the character he plays is one of the most manipulative childish characters I have ever seen. He not only did not stand up to his father in order to save his relationship with Pree, but he also went onto sleeping with different people and later exposed Pree to potentially transmitted disease and to top it off continued to lie about it to Pree. I have said that I live for messy relationships, but I ain't going to lie and say I liked this one too much. What I did like about their relationship, is that this happens way too often in real life and many BL dramas don't even bother touching on these issues. Pree is not without faults, but in this relationship, he gave Rambo lots of chances to not only come clean about his cheating, but also with saving their relationship. Some people commented on how he was a "fault" for his failed relationship and I just didn't see it that way. Both had faults, but
Pree and Pop--while I may be in the minority here (I do like them as an end game if that were to be the case), I don't think it should be right for Pree to go after Pop since Pop dated his sister. I understand that Pree was in love with Pop first, but it was his own fault for not taking a step in confessing at the time. Still, a tiny part of me would love to see Pree happy even if it isn't with Pop. If Rambo gets his act together *which doesn't seem to be the case based on that last episode*, then maybe I might root for them to get back together, but as it stands, Pree is better off alone and trying to find what it is he wants in a partner.
All of the cast had great chemistry .
Music: I really really love the OSTs...The beginning song is so beautiful when the actor who plays Oat sings it in the last episode. His voice is quite pleasing and the slow take on the song was a nice arrangement. The ending song is also really beautiful and has such a sad melody that you know it will probably foreshadow the real ending of the series. *If you have read the novel or seen the spoilers, then you know what I mean*
Scenery, themes, etc...It was so nice watching a drama that wasn't in a school setting or in dark apartments.
There is more I want to say, but I'm going to watch the two last episodes again cause I know I missed some things.
Let me start off with this: I absolutely was captivated by the first season, and the second one was no different. I was a continuous roller coaster that you just don't want to leave. This season did has a major theme of misunderstanding throughout, but I think it topped the first season nicely. The characters are all finding their way in a new environment and it truly puts relationships to the test. I think this is was surely a season that didn't overshadow the first, but didn't lack in comparison. The continuous addition of second leads makes me think that Nao saved an entire planet in her previous life - but that's all irrelevant since she's so emotionally invested in one man, Uehara. I really enjoyed a more dynamic take of their relationship they established at the end of the first season. Overall, I highly recommend this drama if you're into a sort of soft romance that makes your feelings well, feel. This is a series that I expected to follow the typical path - which it slightly did - but it also gave me a new addiction to the cast and the story. I only wish the ending was slightly clearer, which is something I tend to see in a lot of dramas in the first place. Good Morning Call will make you want to stay up to the morning just to watch, and if you don't believe me, watch it.
