Strong on vibes and acting

I started the show with limited expectations.
I read some reviews, that the plot will be Swiss cheese. So I prepared myself for a bumpy road and some likely frustrations, how it will play out.

But after watching the first 2 episodes I was sat.
Honestly? It surpassed my expectations.
I loved the dynamics between our 4 main characters. They had on screen chemistry with each other and their acting left nothing to be desired.
If you don’t start to think about the logic of the whole story, you will have an exciting time through vibes and great acting alone.
The last episode was a nail biter.
Dew is the born actor for a villain role. 👀 Holy guacamole 👀
I only knew him from “F4: Thailand”, where he was the boring nice guy. But he is wasted as a nice guy.
The other 3? Chef’s kiss too.

That whole drama reminded me of old movies from the 90s:
The first episode “Final Destination”.
The last few episodes “Flatliners” (not the unnecessary remake. The original.)
And the overall vibe - the music is a heavy lifting actor in this show - “Conspiracy Theory” (not story wise, but the vibe).
I had a good time with it.
A small stash of Kleenex at hand could be useful, since the drama has some onion cutting moments.

I Wish it was better

I was eagerly awaiting this one and after binge-watching it in one seating I must say I am quite... disappointed ?

I found the Shamans couple much more interesting overall, and I felt the main teen characters all lacked depth and emotional maturity... Even considering their age(they’re supposed to be 16-17), I found they all lacked emotional depth and felt like flat archetypes/2D characters, not really “alive." The actors did a good job portraying emotions so it's really not their fault, i think it's because of the production.. I'm throwing some shade here tbh but back in my days, dramas used to be able to pull credible characterisation even with shorter episodes. Enough for us to get attached to the characters you know?

I am aware that with multiple main characters and a group of friends, you can’t really do that deep dive and show their family or the dynamics in the group with more scene, etc (oh and conveniently the main character's aunt is always away etc. felt like a budget decision more than anything), but they felt more like archetypes : the otaku, the sporty girl, the rich mean girl, the nerd, the cute guy. I don’t know, it just lacked that zest.

Also I would’ve loved more scenes with the older shaman lady and at school. It lacked that “this is satisfying” feeling you sometimes get when you're get REALLY into a drama you binge watch, so I felt they didn’t delve deep enough. Also, the timeline and school stuff were skipped. This felt lazy and I am starting to wonder if they use AI to write some of the scenes. ( wouldn't be surprised)

I understand Netflix’s strategy of spending less on dramas with a small cast to boost viewership, rack up numbers and keep everyones eyes stuck on their screens.. but even with just eight short episodes, I think they could’ve gone deeper into the details to really immerse us in the series.

Finally I agree with some comments there and reviews there, especially those comparing it to previous short productions like 8 Show, Pyramid Game, and Might Has Come.

Started strong, then just dropped completely.

Alright, I went into If Wishes Could Kill with the kind of optimism you reserve for a fresh mango at peak ripeness. You know the feeling. You’re already mentally tasting it before you even cut it open. Eight episodes? Easy binge. Supernatural horror? My nonsense tolerance is high. I am ready to forgive things if the vibe hits. This drama looked me straight in the eye and said, “I will waste your time efficiently.” And to its credit, it absolutely delivered on that promise. We finished it in a day. Not because it was good. Because it felt like ripping off a bandage you accidentally glued to your skin.

The first couple of episodes? Not bad. There was a setup. There was intrigue. There was even a faint whisper of atmosphere trying to form, like the show briefly remembered what good Asian horror feels like. You know the kind, where dread creeps in through silence, where negative space does the heavy lifting, where your brain fills in the horror before the screen even shows it. That delicate tension? Gone by episode three. Fully evicted. What replaced it was a chaotic parade of “boo!” moments like the show discovered jump scares and decided to build an entire identity around them.

And look, jump scares are fine. They’re seasoning, not the whole meal. This show took the salt shaker, unscrewed the cap, and dumped it directly into your mouth. Every time tension tried to build, it got interrupted by another loud noise and a ghost popping into frame like it missed its cue in a haunted house attraction. At some point, I stopped reacting. I wasn’t scared. I wasn’t tense. I was mildly annoyed, like someone repeatedly tapping my shoulder while I’m trying to watch something better.

What hurts more is the wasted potential. There are ideas here that could have worked. The premise has teeth. The early tone hinted at something unsettling, something that could linger. Instead, the story starts unraveling at an impressive speed, like it actively resents coherence. Characters make decisions that feel less like human behavior and more like the writer throwing darts at a board labeled “plot progression.” Emotional beats land with the impact of a wet paper towel. You can see where the story wants you to feel something, but it never earns it.

And the horror logic. Oh, the horror logic. I give supernatural stories a wide pass. You want to bend rules? Fine. You want ghosts operating on vibes instead of physics? Sure. But at least stay consistent within your own nonsense. This drama treats its own rules like optional suggestions. Things happen because the script needs them to happen, not because they make sense within the world. It turns tension into confusion, and confusion into apathy. Once you stop trying to understand, the show becomes background noise with occasional loud interruptions.

By the second half, it stops even pretending. Plot threads get dropped, character motivations evaporate, and what’s left feels like a speedrun to the ending. Not a satisfying sprint, more like someone tripping over the finish line and calling it a victory. You sit there thinking, “Wait, that’s it?” Not in a shocked way. In a “you’ve got to be kidding me” way.

And the biggest crime? It completely ignores what makes Asian horror shine. The genre thrives on restraint. On what you don’t see. On that slow, creeping unease that settles into your bones. This show replaces all of that with noise and cheap tricks. It’s like watching someone try to recreate a haunting melody using only a car horn.

So yeah, if you need a quick horror fix and your standards are currently on vacation, this will fill the time. It’s short. It moves fast. It ends before you have too much time to process how little it gave you. But if you were hoping for something atmospheric, something smart, something that respects your brain even a little bit, this ain’t it.

I went in expecting a carefully ripened mango. I got one that looked perfect on the outside and turned out mushy and overripe the second I cut into it. Technically edible. Deeply disappointing. If your alternative is staring at a wall or scheduling a root canal, sure, queue it up. Otherwise, your time deserves better.

I don't like the Mook much let's see where this goes

I started watching this cz the plot seemed kinda similar to sand princess and the March was in sand princess. Also I like Namtharn from "The cupids" but i am kinda disappointed in just ep 1.

I mean yeah I get why she divorced her husband cheating, mama boy and bad in laws but... there were signs even before they married. The entire time her mom was being disrespected but ok they've been dating for soo long. Sometimes u tend to compromise.

But after all that happened to her i really feel Mook is crossing the line with her Boss and his wife is not wrong for suspecting them.
1. The part where other parents are taunting her she literally hugs his arms as she walks away. That's not something "just friends" do especially when one is married and both have children.
2. The entire car ride scene. Bro didn't seem to look at her as just a friend. The way she acts with her other male collegues and him are soo different.
3. Ep 2 promo. You don't take off someone's pants in the bathroom to wash it🙄 not a married man especially. He can do it himself and even if he can't, just use 2 stalls instead or he uses a stall u use the sink😑😑
She's doing what happened to her to his wife. Yeah she's kinda kurt doesn't mean she's bad either and even if she is no one deserves this to happen to them unless they're a cheater. I'll update my review once I'm done watching

Another drama by Off-Gun, of course here I am… Let’s discuss drama…

The story follows Jira, a struggling artist who feels lost, exhausted, and disconnected from the world. At his lowest point, his friend Ing suggests he visit the Burnout Bar—a quiet refuge for people worn down by life.

The bar has a simple rule: you can either sit alone or be matched with a companion by the bartender. That’s how Jira meets Pheem, a warm, gentle IT specialist who listens without judgment. Pheem quickly becomes Jira's source of comfort. Pheem turns into Jira’s “safe space” and eventually falls deeply in love with him, hoping to help him heal.

Later, Ing offers Jira a job as a dinner companion (escort). Reluctant at first, but desperate for money, Jira accepts. The job goes terribly wrong—but his bold and fiery reaction catches the attention of Koh, a wealthy yet emotionally distant businessman who happens to witness the scene.

Intrigued by Jira’s personality, Koh offers him an unusual arrangement. He wants to hire Jira—not as a lover, but as a stand-in. To attend social events, business dinners, any situation that drains him. Koh can’t face them anymore.

What I like:
+ Quite different from all GMMTV dramas. This is quite heavy. But I really like it…
+ Off-Gun chemistry never disappointed us…

Don’t know if I like it or not. But the way Jira just choose Koh is kinda trigger something for me… ^^

Overall this is quite worth your time to watch…

A lovely slice of life series.

As you read reviews, you consistently see Park Bo Gum mentioned. Well the series does feature his name. But it is so much more than that. Lee Sang-Yi and Kwak Dong Yeon are involved completely as well. The three of them together shows such sweet and caring brotherhood. Lee Sang-Yi is wonderful with the elders, particularly with Ms. Ra Ok Ja. She adores him and so enthralled with hem, she can’t even recall the other brothers names. Kwak Dong Yeon is such a sweetheart. The way he includes Seon Hee in cooking and is so proud that they enjoy his food, makes me smile with every interaction. Ms Eo spoiled him and he adores her. And, Park Bo Gum. He was so touched by Da In’s letter. His nature is so thoughtful. The children the teenagers, the elders, they all liked that he was there. Going beyond duty and going to Ms. Sun Hee’s home to do her hair because she wasn’t able to come to the shop. Her gift of the perilla oil was so precious to him. That wasn’t acting, that was life at a sweet moment, creating a memory. The part-timers were all cute. I really liked Chef Yun Nam No. I wish he had more time there for he and Kwak Dong Yeon to showcase their delicious food.
I am pleased they are doing a second season. But the one thing that impressed me most; the three brothers visited the village again when the peach blossoms were blooming. No fanfare. No cameras, no filming, just friends returning to visit those they miss. That! That speaks volumes about their character. Aigoo! Excellent show.

Fast-Paced and Thrilling, but Lacking a Standout Lead

Honestly, I think Duty After School is one of the better survival/monster-themed Korean series I’ve watched compared to others in the same genre.

What stood out the most to me was the pacing and storyline. I’ve watched many Korean survival dramas where the characters spend too much time talking, and the tension ends up feeling weak. But in Duty After School, the story moves quickly and includes a lot of action, which makes it genuinely exciting to watch. The comedic moments added throughout the series also helped balance the tension nicely.

Another major strength is the CGI—it’s surprisingly good and makes the monster scenes much more immersive and believable.

I also appreciate the characters in this drama. Unlike many survival series where the cast can be frustratingly weak, selfish, or simply a burden, the characters here are actually competent and brave. They feel capable, useful, and much less annoying than what I usually see in this genre.

However, my biggest issue with the drama is its character focus.

Even though the show technically has many main roles and supporting roles, the screen time feels distributed almost equally among everyone. If I hadn’t looked it up online, I honestly wouldn’t know who the actual leads were.

Because of that, no single character feels properly highlighted. What frustrated me even more is that some of the most impactful and important scenes are often given to supporting characters instead of the supposed main leads, which makes the main characters feel less significant.

On top of that, the “main leads” are constantly grouped together with supporting characters rather than being given their own distinct focus, so the spotlight feels too scattered. As a viewer, it becomes hard to know who I’m really supposed to care most about.

Usually in survival dramas, there’s at least one standout character I become attached to—but here, I couldn’t connect strongly with anyone because no one was given enough individual prominence.

Overall, Duty After School excels in pacing, action, tension, CGI, and competent characters, making it a very entertaining survival drama. But its inability to properly establish and emphasize its main characters makes the emotional experience feel weaker than it could have been.

?? aged badly but at the same time no???

I understand why Full house is considered as the blueprint of rom-com. This show was hilarious even though the plot was nothing crazy.

And it is a lot from me because I usually don't like comedy that much, for example dramas such as Business proposal, Mr queen, or Vincenzo which were sold to me as being some of the funniest dramas, couldn't steal me a smile.

Now before watching you have to take in consideration that it's a very old show so it's borderline misogynistic. For me the good side takes over it but for some people it can be a pass.
And also the show as a whole is totally unrealistic, you must go into it knowing it's just silly.

Last thing I want to say is that it was the first time I fully enjoyed Song Hyekyo acting game. I usually like her kdramas because she chooses good plots, but her cating in itself is often not giving for me. But this time she was great and made he show was it was.

When predatory swindler became the prey

I am preparing a reddit post on vertical drama actresses aged 35 and above and came across Liu Qing Xin. I realised I had noticed this drama when it was released but somehow was not compelled to watch it. I did it today and it was a great watch.

What I liked:
1. Writing - A refreshed plot with predatory swindler became the prey instead.
2. FL characterisation - Intelligent, focus and no-nonsense. I loved her determination to seek justice for her friend.
3. Acting - Amazing performances by Liu Qing Xin and Wang Hao Zhen. I could sense their characters' pain & anger.
4. Styling - I loved her outfits except the gloves. Fabulous rich woman vibe. ML also wore beautiful suits. Even prison outfit looked good on Wang Hao Zhen.
5. Duration - This drama is only 1 hour 45 minutes long. Concise storytelling.
6. Ending - I loved the ending which was done in 2 parts: i) FL creating a women's aid organisation and ii) wrap up of ML's arc. That's bold of him.
7. Supporting characters - I liked FL's daughter & male friend who supported her cause. I also liked ML's friend / colleague Kevin.

What I disliked:
1. Antagonists - Wang Hao Zhen's ML is one of the antagonists. He's a con artist making money from rich single ladies. I hated his boss Qin Hao De and his employees for profitting from other people's misery.

POV: I'm in this show and I like it

I just want to say thank you Summer strike for depicting the most wholesome introvert romance.

I can't belive how engaging the story was even if objectively, not a lot happened. I was smiling the whole time and I felt so represented as an introvert.

I didn't put a perfect score because the whole "thriller/mystery" part of the plot wasn't giving anything, like idk they could have done something better, I didn't care at all about it, all I wanted was to come back to the romance part and the enjoying the dolce vita part which were perfectly executed.

Now I will say this drama is not for you if you need action, it has a very slow rythm.

everything would've been better if timpai is in drama instead of romcom....

i honestly wanted to rate it higher than an 8 because i really love the theme, and the chemistry between the actors is so good. they had me invested from the start. but tim’s redemption arc just didn’t hit for me. when we as viewers already know how deeply pai loved him, it felt weird how lightly the story handled pai being scammed by the person he loved most. that kind of pain should’ve hit harder.

i think the main problem is this couple just doesn’t fit a romcom setup. they needed more angst, more drama, more time to really unpack the hurt and healing. instead, everything moved too fast because the show wanted to keep things light, and it made some important moments feel shallow.

unorth, on the other hand, fit the romcom vibe perfectly. even though u is a scammer too, north was the one chasing him first, wanting to marry him first, wanting him first. so it’s easy to root for them from the beginning. and they’re CUTE AF 😭 every time their scenes came on, i was smiling and blushing like crazy.

acting wise, mark impressed me. he has that thing where you can feel what the character feels without him needing to overdo it. he makes emotions land naturally. junior was decent, but i wanted more nuance. scammer tim and real tim felt too similar. i wanted clearer shifts in expression, energy, the way he looks at pai. make me see the difference between the lie and the real feelings.

the writing for the background characters was also lacking. the parents barely existed, and i kept wondering why pai seemed closer to his grandpa than his own family with no deeper explanation. tim’s family issues were solved way too quickly in one ep, and da zhan was kinda just there without much purpose.

so yeah, the story definitely has holes. but at the same time, it gave me feelings, and that’s why i still enjoyed it. the chemistry, the cute moments, the emotional pull all worked on me. but if i’m being honest, that 8/10 is me being nice because the writing alone wouldn’t get that score.

The drama that made me lock in kdrama world

It may be biased because it was one of my first kdramas in 2018 but this show is so good, I have feelings for it at this point. It has been in my top 5 for years and the "I wanna reset" still pops up in my head randomly sometimes 💀.

Plot: I liked the way school life was depicted even though it may seem dramatic I think it represents a lot of people's life. I rember the revenge being so satisfying, the way eun byeol backed up her sister. Even though it's a school drama, it will provides you with an epic feeling.

Characters: I like the way side characters had very interesting and relevant stories. I also liked how it adressed the "being a bystander" or "being a passive bully" issue with Eun Byeol's bffs story line.

Production: I also remeber thinking the rythm was weird at first, but it was maybe because I was not used to kdramas.

Anyway perfect drama for begginers!
