At first it's all about how Kaori wants to study more and take the exam... but later, it seems like Kaori is forced to do what Shinichi wants... but thanks to Kanako, she applied to another school. It was the most realistic ending for me. I won't be happy if Kaori passed her first exam but won't happy with her not enrolling to other good school as well...

I think the killer more looks like Kim Jae Wook (from the lower lips)... and "man in raincoat" is written as his role in the cast list here. But I don't know if it's official or not; what written in the list.
