And the plot is unpredictable as bread-tie-twisty says. It's also a mix of classic and realistic movie because there is the pure hearted girl, the handsome guy and so on but the story will make it realistic... I try not to spoil you ;) Just WATCH IT and you will understand what i am talking about . GOOOO ! :)
PS: I'm french so sorry if i made some mistakes , feel free to correct me thank you ;)

One of the strongest point of this drama is the cast: Lee Je Hoon as Park Hae Yeong is perfect, his expressions, his big lips, the crazy look he has when he's profiling someone, his tears.. are really on point! I dunno another works from him, but after this drama I'll definitively stalker him around. Jo Jin Woong as Lee Jae Han is really good too, I really like the development and how the actor portrait this specific character.. Cha Soo Heyon is not my favorite kind of female character, just for the fact that I feel like almost all her judgements are kind of based on her feelings for Lee Jae Han. But, on the other side, is really cool to watch this strong and amazing woman that doesn't seem afraid of fighting for the right thing. Kim Hye Soo was really cool on the acting scenes and I really think that she has a crazy chemistry with Lee Je Hoon; I shipped Detective Cha with Park Hae Yeong all time long!
Overall I really enjoyed watching this drama and I couldn't stop until I had finished it.. Everything was done pretty well and it's impossible to not like it.

I wouldn't have given this as high a score it if weren't for Heo Jung Eun as Geum Bi. That little girl is an amazing actress and I enjoyed her character so much. The other actors are good too, but I didn't feel a bit of chemistry between any of them. They all seemed awkward around each other except when with Geum Bi. She is pretty much the star of the show and the reason why I watched and finished it all.
The music is awesome.
I will never rewatch this.
If you like a melodrama with hope, then this is definitely one for you.

I liked this drama very much just because of the romance. It made my love of Kim Young Kwang higher!! I loved him on pinocchio tho! :D
I will re-watch it some years later, of course!
And the story is sad and cute and funny too.

I liked the motion capture, the faces and gestures are just great. And the characters are presented and developed without over explaining, anything BUT the classic Hollywood style.
There are several plot twist and, depending on the translation project you're watching, you'll understand more or less so I would recommend you to pay attention to the subtitles.
The ending comes with several revelations, and a closing that suggests a second movie. I hope it comes soon because I had a great time with the characters and I'd love to know what happens next.

The story on its core it's a really interesting one, with plot twists, intriguing characters, interesting old history but... It's so badly executed! And I don't mean the production, which is pretty good for a chinese drama. The script is a mess... I'm sure the books are really great, but there are lots of times in this drama when you have no idea why something happened, or why the characters are doing what they are doing. I know that some things are left unexplained simple because this is intended to be an 8 part series, but I mean things like: one of the main characters appears out of nowhere, nobody knows who he is, he doesn't speak, he joins the party and everybody plays along with that. I don't know, maybe I'm too picky, but I think this had the potential to be very good and instead it's nearly mediocre.
On the bright side, I'm really interested in the books right now =P

The light-heartedness and warmth I felt in this drama reminds me of Reply 1997 though.. Ahhh, the feels...

Updated Review 2022:Over the last few years, I've begun to re-watch some of my favorite dramas, the ones I've loved and cherished since I first watched them, and each time, I'm anxiously hoping they'll still live up to those feelings. So far, I've been very lucky. I've remembered why I loved a drama so much and my love for it has been renewed. I've even re-watched a couple dramas that I didn't like/didn't get the first time and discovered that the problem had actually been me all along. I finished my most recent re-watch, Weightlifting Fairy, this past week, a drama I utterly adored the first time I watched it, and I'm happy to say that the streak of good drama re-watches has not been broken.
First off, I have a newfound appreciation for everything that goes on outside of the romance. I was once one of those drama lovers who (mostly) only cared about romance, and while I didn't have anything I disliked about Weightlifting Fairy the first time I watched it, I definitely didn't give the other plotlines the attention they deserved. But now that I'm more seasoned and have developed an appreciation for stories that aren't solely about love, I found each separate plotline equally engaging to watch. There are no lulls or plot holes or draggy story points. From getting a glimpse into the weightlifting world to the heartbreaking struggles of the second female lead, there isn't a single plotline that ever feels wasteful or like a detour from the purpose of the drama. They all tie together and complement each other to provide meaningful contributions to the overarching messages of the drama. And I can't forget to talk about the characters, all of whom I love. Each and every one of them is charming and fun, Bok Joo and Joon Hyeong and their group of friend's chief among them.
But I think the thing I love most about this drama is the way it makes me feel. It's uplifting and hopeful and deeply earnest. There are heartbreaks and struggles to go around but threaded throughout is a sense of optimism and possibility, a belief in tomorrow. The story tells us this is hard, but the characters can overcome it. You can overcome it too. And I like stories that make me feel that way.
In closing, I'll leave you with this. There's a certain feeling I want to get from a drama once the story is over and there are no more episodes left to watch, a feeling that kind of takes over your body, your being, and for a moment, you and that feeling are the same. I don't know what you would call this feeling or how to describe it. Maybe peacefulness or satisfaction or a sense of completion but tinged with sadness that it's over. All I know is this drama left me feeling this feeling both times I watched it.
Weightlifting Fairy is a story filled with sweet moments and lovely characters and a genuine sense of earnestness, and I love it for it.

There are no lulls or plot holes or draggy story points. Only sweet moments and lovely characters and a sense of earnestness. And honestly, that's really all you need.
I'm sad that this drama is over, and I'll probably need a few days to recover.

I started watching this drama since it was a recommendation from another gender bender. I ended up liking this one alot more than I thought I would. I think the chemistry between the 2 leads was hot!! Lol I think if there chemistry wasn't as good I probably wouldn't have kept watching it. There were parts of the storyline that I thought kinded dragged on or I didn't really see the point of why they included those scenes. Also the 2nd lead couple were kinda boring lol I'm sorry to say I did fast forward most of the parts they were on the screen, sorry! Some of the acting was over the top but I am kinda getting used to that with any asian dramas I watch. Woulld def recommend but do go into it with low expectations and I think you would enjoy it more. Would def think of rewatching if just for the fact (possible spoiler ahead but I need to explain why I would rewatch) that I want to see the scenes where they were together after he had already found out "the secret" Was this review helpful to you?
To start off, Joon Hyung was the most kind, caring, and sweet boyfriend I have ever seen in a drama. He cared about Bok Joo so much and wasn't a jerk like other kdrama male leads. And Bok Joo was adorable, even though she played a weightlifter and wore some pretty nerdy clothes at times, you can still see how pretty and true to life she really is. Their chemistry together is one of the best that I've seen; no moment they were together was dull. There were so supportive of each other and they depicted a love that was very realistic and pure without any cliches like other dramas.
And there were also so many supportive characters and I loved every single one of them. Bok Joo's friends were always so supportive of her, and it really made me realize how important it is to have such amazing friends like them, and at times made me envious of Bok Joo for having such great ones. Not to mention, Joon Hyung's friend was hilarious and I loved watching his interactions with Bok Joo's friends.
I have to admit, at first, when I heard that this drama revolved around weightlifting, I had my doubts about watching this drama because personally, I don't like that style because most dramas I watched with sports themes don't turn out very well (but I decided to give it a shot bc Nam Joo Hyuk). But gosh did this drama prove me wrong. The sports theme added elements of hope and ambition that wouldn't be there otherwise. This drama just proves that not every drama has to have a complicated storyline or evil characters that get in the way, because this one had none of that and was still so amazing, and the high rating is really justified by it. I definitely hope that more dramas have pure romances and happy stories like this one!

I wanted to love this I really did, but the story was just terrible. The first half I found very childish and shallow and then the second half is full of angst and confusion. Now don't get me wrong I'm fine with angst in melodramas....as long as they make logical sense or have something important to convey to the audience. However at the end of this drama I was just left with so many questions and things did not add up at all in the last couple of episodes.
You should really avoid this drama, I wish I had.

It goes back and forth in time a lot, but that enhances the whole.
Excellent production makes this a gem of a series. It would fit into any TV schedule around the world.
The ups and downs, the twists and turns, and the nasty characters you want to kick and the ones you want to tell them to think of themselves for once. All add up to marvellous TV.
Did I mention that you must watch this??
