Don't Even Need to See the Final Episode >_<

let me sum this entire mini drama up for you in as few words as possible, m'kay?
+ "comedy" didn't comedy right at all.
+ romance = a few painful-to-watch forced kisses. & literally that's it. by 2nd to last episode FL in no way at all has fallen for ML. So be aware if watching for the "romance" cause this isn't where you'll find any.
+ plot that just had FL running in circles the entire. drama. to go nowhere at all by the end.
+ dealing with cheating husband and his lame concubine entire drama and it was so painfully boring to watch.

The first few episodes can be a little confusing, especially as the story slowly reveals the male lead's true identity as a prince. Once that mystery is uncovered, the plot becomes much easier to follow and far more engaging.

The CGI is decent, the martial arts choreography is well executed, and the story is packed with political intrigue, strategic battles, and power struggles. As expected from a cast filled with well-known actors, the performances are excellent. Every major character delivers convincing emotions and adds depth to the complex storyline.

My only complaint about the visuals is the female lead's hairstyle. Especially when she's wearing military armor. The hairstyle often feels awkward and doesn't match her overall appearance, making her look less graceful than she could have.

Unfortunately, the romance is only a minor subplot. For most of the drama, the relationship between the main leads feels more like close companions who enjoy teasing and arguing with each other rather than lovers. Their romantic development only becomes apparent in the final episodes, so their chemistry as a couple never feels fully developed from the beginning. If you're expecting a romance-heavy drama, you may be disappointed.

I haven't read the original novel, so I'm judging the drama on its own. Sadly, the ending feels rushed and ultimately unsatisfying. The male lead sacrifices so much throughout the story to fight his way to the top and achieve his position, only to give everything up in the end, making all of those hardships and sacrifices feel almost meaningless. To make matters worse, he is left with only ten years to live after sacrificing his own life force to save the female lead. It almost feels as though the male lead exists only to suffer, with nothing more than a brief moment of happiness alongside the woman he loves before paying an enormous price. That bittersweet conclusion left me feeling more frustrated than satisfied.

Politics over Spiritual Mystery

The first episode of Human Vapor drew me into the spiritual-mystery of his way of killing rather than the reason behind the murder. It was kind of disappointing for me that as the story goes, the "how" was side-tracked and replaced by a huge "why" to fill the void.

Fortunately, those reasons were good enough, compact enough, and big enough to shift our focus from how Human Vapor could kill in such way. The line up was top-notch as well, didn't disappoint.

Worth to watch, minus the side effect that you would hum to Ellie My Love after finishing this series.

Not the Usual Kind of Hero

Han Li and his best friend Zhang Tie left their dilipidated hometown and set out to join selection for a sect new disciples. They failed to make selection but a physician named Mo took them as disciples instead after finding out Han Li possesses spirit root for cultivation. They worked diligently under the physician, learning to read, write and cultivate for six years. Unbeknownst to them, Physician Mo had an ulterior motive that would cost them their lives instead. Han Li, being the favored disciple and given the best food, herbs and knowledge by Physician Mo, started to get suspicious especially after Zhang Tie’s sudden disappearance. His first showdown had been with the supposedly frail Physician Mo who turned out quite a swordsman, a hassle to handle by a mere Tier 6 of Qi Refining Level cultivator like Han Li. But he emerged victorious, and thus sets out to find his way in the cultivation world.

What I liked about Han Li is that he is not the usual zero-to-hero kind of character. He doesnt have exceptional talent in cultivation like most characters I’ve seen in shows of xuanhuan genre, he doesnt have that purely righteous heart that urges him to throw himself into lopsided battles just to save innocent mortals, and he doesnt bat an eye to flee a battle that he knows he can’t win. He makes strategic moves each time, whether it be advance or retreat. He’s just not that kind of hero that would go into a battle with higher level cultivator just for the sake of dignity or ego. I am glad there’s no breakthroughs after life and death battles that runs rampant in other xuanhuans, cuz that always cringes me out. He doesnt rely on friends, he avoids attachment to people most, even with his shixiong shimei, but that doesnt mean he is heartless or totally detached. He steps in when needed but knows not to act when he should not. He doesnt have any designs in romance, and no amount of beauty, cultivation talent, wealth or background prospect could make him waver in his principles. Despite his supposedly average looks, he turned down the love of a beauty, a daughter of prominent family, a girl with enchantment skill, and a woman of great cultivation talent. I mean, he’s just the kind of hero that I root for, one who is focused on his goal for survival more than romance, power or wealth, it’s like the perfect cultivator specimen around. What makes it even more ironic is that he became a cultivator purely by accident in the first place, and it was never even his choice.

I cant say i like any of the female characters here. The most that earns my like is only Mo Cuihuan, cuz she is not the clingy type and knows when to retreat once her love was turned down. The most detestable character would be Nangong Wan and Chen Qiaoqian, acting so high and lofty just because they thought their family prominence and cultivation level higher thus warrants surrender of anyone below them. Funny how Nangong Wan being a core formation cultivator and yet failed to rein in her own feelings. She keeps blaming others for her emotional disability, always planning to kill ML just because she cant help being infatuated by him. OMG I just wished her character is erased from the sequel, her inner battles just turned me off completely. Not to mention her looks and bearing that could only earn her as ML’s elder than his lover. The scenes of them together make me cringe big time. Thank god ML doesnt feel anything towards this self-absorbed woman who is shameless enough to use gaslighting against him. I am glad he chose not to follow her to her sect in pretense of helping him to advance in his cultivation. Way to go ML, don’t let some cocky woman lead you around the nose. That little part of them on the last episode irks me so much i opted for that ff button instead. The writer’s attempt to create romantic or intimate moments between them failed miserably for me, and it just made me detest Nangong Wan even more. I was rooting for Mo Cuihuan but Han Li being Han Li, I knew it was not his time to indulge in romance yet.

I love all the trinkets and spell gadgets here. Han Li being a mediocre cultivator knew that he had to rely on artifacts, arrays, and puppets to survive battles before he could make himself powerful enough to fight with his own skills, so we get to see all kinds of awesome treasures he collected throughout his journey, most by chance where he picks up leftovers after life and death battles of other cultivators. His kind of luck is the one that i can relate most. His luck is not about winning battles against higher level cultivators, but sweeping off treasures after others’ battles and fleeing battles he could not win using those trinkets he collected. He definitely practices the teaching of his Master Li - the one that keeps their lives in the end are those weaker ones, because they lay low enough to avoid attention and battles thus they get to walk away with their lives intact.

Love the OST, especially Mayfly Will by Shi Yan. Definitely saving it into my running playlist.

Can’t wait for season 2.

A good rom-com!

A great rom-com after AGES! This is what a rom-com drama should look like. I loved this drama throughout its length!

It was a whole package. Comedy, romance, exaggeration, seriousness all wrapped into one. Man! After the recent short length trend of Kdramas has taken over, sitting through 16 episodes of just romance and comedy of a modern drama has become a bit hard. So I wouldn't say it's because the drama dragged, but I had to pull myself through a few episodes in the middle. But the Thailand trip in episode 10 had the drama going again. That was the best arc among any drama I have recently watched. It was fun and as a Thai drama fan myself, it really felt like two of my favorite worlds have collided. I saw Thailand through the eyes of a tourist for the first time 😂 Also liked the Arab prince arc too. The story also ended on a positive note and as many rom-coms, had a wedding. Ya, it was a good plot.

I would say there were plot problems in the second half though. One was when Ms. Gu asks Sangsik to steal Gu Won's professional and private info. They show the scene and then go off on a lot of other things without telling what happened. For quite sometime, he is not even in the story. The moments he does show up, the effect of making us feel doubtful wasn't good enough. And when the truth is revealed that he hasn't, the question remained as to who actually did leak and how. Another thing is, they left the Dream Team thing as it was. Yes, the pay is high. But the concept of the best employees becoming servants of the rich is just ridiculous. I thought they'd at least show that once Gu Won took over, he got rid of it, but no. The change of Ms. Gu also felt a bit rushed.

Lee Junho as Gu Won and Im Yoona as Cheon Sarang were did a good job. They played their roles really well and I loved how their story unfolded. I loved the pair. There is just something about Kdrama male leads in general - their consistency in relationships that just makes you, as a viewer, feel secure. No drama, no misunderstandings, no trust or loyalty issues. Just an anchoring belief that he is always on her side. Gu Won is yet another perfectly written man! Sarang is also not your damsel in distress. She's capable and resourceful. I loved how she quit her job and didn't settle for the so called dream position everyone loved. I love when female leads can stand on their on feet and lead their life the way they want, no matter how rich and loving the male lead is.

A big highlight of this drama is the friendship. Sarang, Daeul(Kim Gaeun) and Pyeonghwa(Go Wonhee) - wonderful example that trios work. Gu Won and Sangsik's(Ahn Seha) friendship was hilarious too. Together with Rowoon(Kim Jaewon), the entire 6 sibling thing was both heartwarming and comical! I really loved Kim Yeongok as Grandma too. God! That was soo heartwarming too. I loved her character soo much 🥹🥹 She did a wonderful job!

So ya, it was a good drama of its kind and worth the watch. I dropped it once becuase life got busy but I'm grateful I came back. Wouldn't rewatch it; too long and nothing too special that makes you want to come back. Just the typical genre and story done well. In a nutshell, this is a drama with a good story, few plot holes and memorable, loveable characters!

Excellent beginning, horrible ending!

The show started strong, interesting, visually thrilling and attractive ... but the writer failed to keep up with the speed and the logic of the story somewhere in the middle of the show.
As the characters moved to YJ and settled down, everything got lost, even FL's hairstyle!
I loved Duan Woo, but Su Mu Je lost my interest and love untill a few ending episodes when KJ brought a badly injured YZJ to The Clear Mind.
We saw very little of the male leads in the second half of the show as the focus moved towards a businesswoman's world.
I liked both male leads very much all thought the show.
I wished for that nasty Chui girl who cared nothing about drowning all the little boats in front of her big ship to be punished severely and lose everything at the end. Seeing her safe and sound and rich and a friend to SMJ at the end made me hate her even more.
And that horrible ambiguous ending ... why do writers think that if they leave characters in an abyss they become professionals?
An open ambiguous ending only shows an indecisive weak frightened writer who doesn't dare write a proper ending and fears giving their characters a full life.
I watched this to find a new version of Hao Do/Leyan couple whom i adored in The Long Ballad but the ending killed all my joy.
Still I'd rewatch this for YZJ and DW.

Epitome of youth

The cinematography and colour grading in this series is really beautiful. The story is really wholesome and covers the struggles of growing up and of course the experience of first love. I’m always smiling so much when I watch this series and it’s so wholesome. The friendships and relationship feel so natural and I love the chemistry between ko neung and ko song. I found myself really invested in this series and I really adore all the characters. I really could rewatch this multiple times whenever I need something to lift my mood. Overall this series is just really well executed and is a very wholesome watch!!!!🩷🩷

The perfect fairytale till it wasn't

Rating: A decent passive watch, but deeply flawed.

The Pros:

It’s a cool, casual watch to pass the time. Great for a long road trip or to watch with teenage siblings.
The core concept has a nice Love Game in Eastern Fantasy vibe (Tree of Life connection / Defender dynamic).

The Rushed Climax & Missing Scenes:

This two-year-old drama felt heavily cut short near the climax. We completely missed out on the wedding, the reunion with their master, and lore and updates on the acquaintances of their master who saved them. Why did FL lose her spirit power? Why did they live in seclusion for 10 YEARS? Any kids? lol what's tea
The villains' wrap-up was completely glossed over after the corrupt leader died.
We missed emotional depth, like the return to the Central Plains island, the exploration of the male lead's clan, and the remnants of the female lead's clan with her flying spirits.

Production & Plot Critiques:

The Music & Sets: The random rock music was incredibly jarring and ruined the immersion. Compared to the rich world-building of xianxia/wuxia dramas from 2018–2021, the sets and editing fell flat.

Abandoned Plots: The male lead's initial assassin/brother storyline became totally obsolete; which initially kept me watching btw.. The show got lost in the "past lives" lore, even though the script insisted the characters had changed. Yes we know you're not Yecha, yes we know you said you're not the past "evil" Tree of Life even though we later found out that FL +ML weren't the aggressors in the past life.

Romance & Casting: There was only one kiss! The tone was so teenager-friendly that the young lead from Keys to the Phoenix Heart would have been a better fit for this drama, put her with Lanya crazy ass!!!

a masterpiece.

just finished watching this series and I am speechless. I don't know how to actually describe it but it was a masterpiece. the storyline,the plot ,the theme,the atmosphere and the cast, everything was perfect.
I hope they make a season two because it only left me hungry.

More than a sports drama: A journey of healing, hope and found family

This is an easy 10 for me because it checks almost every box I'm looking for in a drama:

✅ A story that isn't romance-centric
✅ Subplots that are just as engaging as the main story and never feel like filler
✅ Mature leads who communicate and don't let unnecessary misunderstandings get in the way
✅ A found family that made me want to adopt all of them.
✅ Characters with meaningful growth and touching backstories (made me cry with every episode)
✅ The perfect blend of humor, healing, friendship, sports and romance.
✅ A slow-burn romance that complements the story
✅ Great performances from both the main and supporting cast.
✅ A drama that stays with you long after you've finished watching it and leaves you with so much to reflect on.

It actually reminds me of sports anime. You know how right before a game-winning shot, the scene pauses to show an emotional flashback? This drama does something similar but it never feels overdramatic or cringy. Instead, it blends seamlessly to the story.

Like I've mentioned before in the discussions, this drama is such a gem and has easily earned a place among my favorites. All the characters have become so dear to me. I've lost count of how many times their stories made me cry. This drama hurts, heals and is so wonderfully written.

This drama healed something in me that I never even knew was broken. It's the kind of story that leaves a space in your heart, not a hollow one, but one filled with warmth and comfort 🤍

Don't waste your time, don't be misled by overrated ratings driven by a handsome male lead.

The first four episodes are almost entirely unnecessary. They could have easily been condensed into a single episode without losing anything important. If you're planning to watch this drama, you can safely skip Episodes 1–4 and miss almost nothing of value.

More broadly, the first 10 episodes feel bloated with filler and repetitive conflicts that go in circles instead of moving the plot forward. The pacing is painfully slow, and much of the runtime feels like a complete waste of time. Even in the middle of the series, the drama throws in several completely unnecessary episodes that add nothing to the story. They exist solely to pad the runtime and artificially extend the drama, making the overall experience feel even more dragged out.

For a drama starring such well-known actors, the CGI is surprisingly poor and often distracting rather than immersive. It's well below the level you'd expect from a production with this kind of cast.

The biggest issue, is the overwhelming amount of filler. Many scenes contribute little to either the plot or character development, making the viewing experience feel far longer than it needs to be. I ended up watching at 2× speed and frequently skipping scenes because so much of the runtime felt unnecessary. Rather than building suspense or emotional investment, the sluggish pacing made the drama genuinely boring, I even found myself struggling to stay awake.

Another aspect that frustrated me was the romance. The female lead doesn't seem to deserve the male lead's unwavering devotion because she never truly moves on from her previous crush (It goes up to 30 episodes—that's absolutely insane.). Even when the story expects viewers to root for their relationship, she's still emotionally tied to the past. After the male lead finally confesses his feelings, she continues to hesitate and leaves him hanging instead of giving him a clear answer. She seems content to let him keep chasing her without committing to a relationship, all while still being unable to move on from her old crush. To make matters worse, whenever the male lead makes even a small mistake, the female lead immediately gets upset and gives him the cold shoulder. Yet she never seems to reflect on how hurtful her own actions are. She expects understanding from him while she herself is still emotionally attached to her former crush, even looking visibly heartbroken whenever she sees him. The double standard is hard to ignore and makes her behavior incredibly frustrating.

At the same time, the male lead's refusal to be straightforward only drags the conflict out even further. Instead of clearly telling her what happened in the past, he remains vague, allowing the misunderstanding to continue for far longer than 24 episode's.
