Must Watch

As someone who almost can accurately predict everything I’ve ever watched. This one had my predictions proved false. Definitely one you’d really have to sit down to digest every episode or you’d miss an important detail to piece together the plot. Casting for this series chef’s kiss, they played their parts so well, and the chemistry was definitely there.
From first to last episode, I was hoooooked. I ended up binge watching the entire series in one day. All the emotions this drama puts you through…
Make sure you watch the post credit scenes in the first two episodes, it’s nothing grand but definitely watch them they help you understand the character so much more from their prospective

Me decepcionei

It actually surprised me that this drama was not actually an adaptation of the Black Jack or even a parody of the manga, considering the fact that the main character Hazama Eisuke had a lot of throwbacks to Black Jack.

But seriously though the plot felt like an interesting scenario of what kind of story it could be if there's a genius doctor like Black Jack who can only practice medicine illegally yet still try to save lives in the current age and sociopolitic environment where there's an inequality in terms of people access to health care between the poor and rich.

And it's interesting how despite the Masked Doctors seemed to benefit in offering their service at an extravagant price, they managed to also execute their own brand of 'justice' in the form of medical vigilantism in order to save people's lives.

A mature, fluffy "romance" that could have been much better

I must start this review by saying that I watched this solely for Xiao Zhan, and was not particularly impressed with the trope-heavy first episode. Nonetheless, the show did get better till I considered an 8.5 for this show, only to be a bit disappointed with the last episode.

There were certainly many positives. Although the show appears to be a romance it is more a navigating-through-life drama. There are many lessons to be learned, particularly for the young but mature Sheng Yang who has to learn to manoeuvre through his career aspirations, love, and his parents' expectations of and from him. The scenes at work were really well-written and well-done, and all the circumstances and the outcomes made perfect sense. It was during work that the friendship between Sheng Yang, Song Chen and Pan Rou evolved and the interactions between these three made for some of the best moments on the show.

Although falling in love is easier, working with it is the hardest. Jian Bing (Bai Bai He was great in the role) knows this perfectly well, so her reactions and her hesitance are fully comprehensible. Despite the utterly out-of-character Jian Bing in the beginning episodes, what we get is a mature, introverted, solemn and measured Jian Bing whose wisdom and age show in her actions. Her mentoring of Sheng Yang made for some of the best moments on the show- she rubs off on him in all the best of ways, through her words and actions. Jian Bing is a role model, someone to aspire to and such female mentoring is truly wonderful to watch. We should befriend and fall for those who make us better versions of ourselves, and that is perhaps one of the best takeaways from the show.

I looked forward to these interactions- between Sheng Yang and Jian Bing, between Sheng Yang and his parents (his parents were such beautifully-written characters!), Sheng Yang and his friends, but unfortunately, for some strange reason, the show makers decided to spent a large amount of time on the ice hockey trio- characters that emerged out of a need to showcase this game, and from the game multiple unnecessary interactions emerged. Sadly, I forwarded many of the scenes involving these characters, and was thoroughly disappointed when a large proportion of the last episode was devoted to these characters. By doing so, necessary screen time for the main characters was unduly snatched.

The acting was fantastic throughout- I enjoyed most of the characters (except the hockey trio, although I cannot blame their performances). I really enjoyed Wang Lin and Yang Hao Yu's performance and their characters- they had excellent chemistry with each other and with Xiao Zhan. I've seen Liu Xun and Julia Xiang in other roles and they were great here. Tian Yu's Xue Yi Ming may have been annoying at times, but I am glad that he did have Jian Bing's back and their unaffected friendship was touching. Liang Shan Shan (Zhu Zhu) was an interesting character, and again, her (and Xue Yi Ming's) devotion towards Jian Bing was one of the show's highlights.

The last episode was underwhelming; too much time was devoted to secondary characters and the last few minutes did not seem consistent with the main characters' personalities.

Nonetheless, this is a good watch overall.

I watched this series months ago, but never wrote a review, since I was at loss of words. Part 2 is most likely my favorite, because of Ta Gon and Tae Al Ha. Those characters and actors are just incredible. They aren't the good guys, but you can feel for them, and I enjoy how both play their games, how both have a strong will to succeed. Ta Gon is a truly tragic character. Both are, their upbringing and their fathers made them who they are, and that's why they are a good match. We got great fight scenes in those episodes too. Not to mention episode 12 which was one of the best of the whole series when everything came together, the tension was insane.
Again: Brilliant.

A cinematic masterpiece with only one flaw

My Journey to You (MJTY) is dark story yet is able to find use of comedic relief to balance out its harder themes. Honourable mention to the very well choreographed fight scenes because they are simply *chefs kiss*. So much detail was put into this drama, and the production level was like watching a movie and not a long drama. If you like a happy ending, I would suggest stopping at 42:30 of the last episode and not finish the last few minutes.

Story:
The story is very well paced and thought out, and I'm constantly trying to figure out who is a Wufeng spy and who isn't. I really enjoy dramas where I feel like the story can outsmart me as a viewer, and MJTY was no exception. Every time someone was assassinated, the story was able to make the viewers guess and give them time to try to figure it out, but always added a good amount of twists to the murderers. I really enjoyed the stories of all the side characters, and the support cast played each character so well. The only flaw I found was that they ended the drama on an open note, possibly to encourage season 2 but seeing how big the cast is and the popularity of Esther and Linghe rising it's gonna be virtually impossible to see another season for years to come.

Acting:
The entire cast for this drama was phenomenal. Can we talk about how all the actors learned their martial arts scenes?! The fight scenes were so beautifully executed and I could see there was a minimal use of stunt doubles because the director is so adamant about creating masterpieces. Even down to Young Master Xue who is literally a kid, executed their characters perfectly. The chemistry of the second couple, Shangguan Qian and Gong Shangjue was insane; I could literally feel sparks fly off the screen. Although I felt like the main couple lacked chemistry together, both Esther and Zhang Linghe did a great job at playing their characters. The main comedic relief of the entire drama, Gong Zishang, was SO funny I literally could not stop laughing every time she was on screen.

Music:
I love my period dramas, and although this drama outshone in everything else, I did feel like the music was a bit lackluster. The music did not give me goosebumps or do much to enhance the scenes like in other dramas I've watched. However the background music score for the fight scenes did a good job at creating the atmosphere. I'm just disappointed there isn't any good OST songs for me to listen to after I finish watching.

Rewatch:
I will 100% be rewatching this because I want to pick up all the details again. The fight scenes were insanely good and I need to see it again.

Overall:
I really enjoyed this drama, and I think its becoming one of my favourites of 2023 after Hidden Love. I really loved Love Between Fairy and Devil last year and started this thinking it would be a great twist cuz now Esther is with the second lead, but I totally fell in love with the entire cast and was rooting for the entire Gong family to win. I also felt like the action scenes were so well done as if it came out of an animation, so it must have taken the actors so much effort to do those scenes and I'm so proud of all of them. I will definitely be following everyone's projects from now on!

The biggest weakness of this series: It's a bit slow, and it takes its time to build the world and the characters. Normally, that's considered a good thing, but I must admit I couldn't get into it for the longest time. I really enjoyed the 1st episode, with young Ta Gon, Asa Hon and their children, the Neanderthal she was in love with, I got invested into the characters and their story just to see them all ... vanish. We got a time skip, and everyone was gone. Ta Gon is still alive, of course, but the actor was replaced by an older one. I felt like someone was throwing me out of a story and into a completely different one. I didn't enjoy Eunseom's and Tanya's friendship/romance, because their characters were too childish and innocent. It was meant to be like this, I know, but it was a bit tiring watching them living in the tribe. So what changed? I don't remember which episode it was, but suddenly I was hooked. I was fascinated by Ta Gon and Taen Al Ha, those characters (and actors) just stole the spotlight. Their performance, their intensity and their political intrigues and mind games were incredible. I also started to admire Tanya, and I saw her growth and potential. Of course, the whole plot about the twin brothers was very intriguing. So I went back and rewatched the first episodes and finally understood that this series is brilliant.

Unpredictable in Every Sense

I watched this drama while it was airing and all through out the comment section was filled with theories and ideas of how the drama would unfold. Luckily none of us were right as this drama is pretty hard to predict if you’re watching it with no prior knowledge. The characters truly felt like real intricate people with real feelings and real emotions. Each cast member played their role to the best of their ability and you can definitely tell in the quality of the drama. Furthermore it was honestly a success as a whole as the cinematography was absolutely stunning, the script was flawless, the soundtrack has made its way into my everyday listening music playlist, basically I can go on and on praising it, but I think everyone should give it a try. When I began watching it I didn’t think I would really like it since I’m not a fan usually of dark dramas, but this drama aced it and truly left me with a hunger for more like it. As for the ending I think each person has their own opinion about it, as for me I hope to see our questions answered in a second season and hopefully we will see the same quality of work and meet our cast members one more time as they bring these characters to life. Now after reading my rant you should go watch it. I have a guess you probably won’t regret it!

Does this movie actually deserve a 10? No. But it was really enjoyable and interesting to watch. And I wanted more of it. I wish it was a series instead. So, the 10 I give is not because this movie is a 10 but because the enjoyment it gave me is 10/10.
After watching it I really wish Japan would adapt more of those webnovels and manga based on western fantasy where everyone is Japanese but has English names and set in fictional western based countries. They could just be fun little series and I would really enjoy watching them a lot. Korean ones would do too but they can be more serious and Japanese ones more light hearted. There are so many great stories in those webnovels, webtoons and mangas. I wish I could watch them as live action series.

Breathtaking

I wonder why I never wrote a review for this 2nd season. I was hooked from the beginning to the end and enjoyed it more than the 1st season. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Some characters were just incredible, the acting was overall pretty good, I even started to like the main guy. The plot was as intriguing as in the 1st season, but this time they tackled some moral questions that really got me thinking. It's a while that I watched a series, and I had to pause it just to take it all in and get my thoughts straight. This series really deserves the hype.

Forget everything you think you know - the twists in MJTY will sucker punch you!

My Journey to You was a very enjoyable watch and has the most impressive fight scenes I've seen in a C-drama. I laughed, I cried and then cheered for the characters - even some that were unbearable at first. I loved that there was a lot character development by the end of the drama. There were also many likeable, complex characters. I was so sick of watching dramas were I despised half of the characters. Honourable mention, the eye candy was endless - male and female characters alike.

I must commend the writers as the plot twists were superb. I soon learned to forget what I think I have learned from my experience watching dramas as a lot of the happenings were unexpected. Something as simple as thinking, "There's no way a certain character will get caught this early in the drama because it never happens" or feeling relaxed thinking, "There's no need to stress, that character will be fine like they always are in other dramas" makes sense until doesn’t. The writers pulled a uno reverse so many times, I was on the edge of my seat and could no longer trust my gut haha.

Finally, the OSTs were so beautiful and matched perfecty with the scenes where they were played over. My tears couldn't stop flowing in the last 3 episodes when the OSTs played even though I had heard them multiple times throughout the drama.

I truly hope we get a 2nd season as the last few scenes implied it. This drama would have been a 9/10 if the loose ends were thoroughly tied up. Overall, a very enjoyable watch.

Best Show of 2023 and I do not take it lightly !!!

I have watched many C-dramas and I am so shocked at how good this show is. This show is highly unpredictable. I spent many nights chatting with others to piece parts of this show together on theories. I can't believe how vested I was in this show.
Because this show was 24 episodes the story line had to get to the point and not drag out stories and the director and screenwriters executed this well. Are there missing pieces? Yes but they told enough to keep the storyline together.

Zhang Ling He - Played Gong Zi Yu very well, you had to see him mature and use his smarts quickly in the show. The costumes looked amazing also. I really enjoyed his character.

Esther YU- Her role was great she played her role very well. I know her objective was to be calm and not show a lot of emotions and I wished she showed more emotions towards Gong zi Yu but that is what makes Yu shu Xin great.

Lu YU Xiao - Playing Shangguan Qian she played the role well, she was veyr cunning and always had a sly look on her face. She understood her assignment. She did a good job.

Ryan Cheng- Gong Shang Jue was amazing he was great , I really enjoyed his character .

Gong zi Shang - I love how Dramatic and silly she is.. Her role is excellent

Jing fan - I was so loyal and I like how the tables turned at the end for him, it was so cute. His storyline was awesome

Tian Jia Rui - Gong Yuan Zhi loved his role also so cool, I really enjoyed his acting

There is more, I just wanted to give major kudos to the cast and I hope there will be a season 2. even if its not the way the show ended was with a bang. the objective was to make us think and provoke thought and I can truly accept that.

Ughhhhh why...why did I watch this?????

This was just one of those shows that you watch as a filler on a Monday because my god what was this????

The characters were just annoying. It was not even cute at all. Like how can he even be attracted to someone who behaves like a child, a literal child. It also made the sex scenes even weirder because how howwwww can you be attracted to that. Like Golden retriever boyfriend I understand but this was an overkill.

The second couple did not really have a plot. It was basically all about sex and that's it which is a shame in my opinion.

I just....I should have dropped this show. I really should have but see, I was bored...-_-

needed a little more time

the story was interesting, and I’m frankly still surprised such young children were allowed to act in this. still, they conveyed the story and emotions very well. i found ren’s younger version to be done incredibly well.

as far as the series goes, I think it deserved more time/episodes. it was pretty complex, so it did suffer a little in terms of storytelling. there were too many wrinkles for the audience to truly feel like we got to know these characters or their stories completely. we learned quite a bit about ren, but the same can’t be said about kazuma. I would’ve liked a lot more story wise, but I do think this was very well done overall.

Very cute in some aspects but lacking too much in storytelling, pacing and developments

The premise of this BL story was pretty interesting with one of the male main lead needing any kind of physical touch with the other main male character to "block" the supernatural element of the show. It has been done before but not necessarily in that context and so I was pretty intrigued on how the relationship was going to evolve starting from there..

Unfortunately, I found the overall story a bit boring, it remained quite superficial in a way with lot of questions not really addressed. I must admit that one of the protagonist was really written as pretty dumb (in an annoying and not -at least to me- endearing way), making it kind of difficult for me to understand why the other was so whipped for him (and also so quickly).

Despite those flaws, there are cute scenes that are worth the watch, there is a really good chemistry between the main actors with quite good acting...Some of their kisses were simply beautiful in a stiring way. I quite enjoyed the introduction as well as the last third of the story (even though the ending felt clearly too rushed) but there is clearly a saggy middle which dragged down the story for me. It is a bit of a shame that I felt there was so many issue in the pacing and storytelling given the short duration of the show.

I enjoyed the soundtrack, it gave some fun and almost cartoon / spunky vibe that created a good atmosphere. It will not necessarily remain in my memory but was really nice to hear during the show. The production value was standard for a university romance. They could have pushed more the horror vibe but decided to go for a comedic tone which I understand given the storytelling they were going for. I would have prefer the choice to be much more angsty to amp the stakes but it is a question of preference on the direction I wanted the show to go into...And it did not happen.

I would recommend this to people looking for a short BL romance with a fantasy element and cohabitation trope. If you have enjoyed drama such as "The Master's Sun" or movie such as "Marry My Dead Body", you might enjoy this because they share some similarities (either in the concept or the humour). I find it lacking in terms of story as well as relationship development but there are quite a bit of very lovely-dovey moments.
