It certainly has interesting characters and exciting storyline.

Awesome characters, great story, great balance between drama and action, love the humour in the series.

In my opinion it is a must watch.

The principal roles are perfectly cast.

Chang-Young is a brilliant actor, has been wonderful to see its growth and development as an actor. I loved the second chapter, so funny and interesting. Highly Recommended.

As painful as bullying can be, I feel that at the end of the series there will be a good message about tolerance, education and respect. ❤️

Hands-down the worst-written BL of all time

This might seem like hyperbole. But let me explain. Physical Therapy isn't the worst-written BL of all time because it would have to have been written, and if it was, it was only by accident. Someone wrote Fahlanruk on purpose.

It's perfectly OK to have a character start out as "bad" and then go through a redemption arc. It's also OK for a character to be victimized in a bad relationship with a psychopath, in which case his character arc is developing the strength and confidence to recognize his worth to free himself and find love and healing.

But here we have a psychopath who's character arc is to ensnare a man through repeated histrionics and abuse until they live happily ever after. The End. Either this was written by someone without enough life experience to have a clue what adulthood and love are, or they are an adult who is an alcoholic abuse-victim with PTSD who is trying to self-medicate by writing the same scene over and over and over again until the audience shares their PTSD.

Everyone in this story is an alcoholic binge-drinker. Every motivation is jealousy. EVERY motivation. Sher and Fahlan are not boyfriends, they are friends with benefits. While it's clear they have deeper feelings for each other, they aren't committed, but still, whenever the other so much as talks to another human (probaby a pet or inanimate object too, but it never came up) a histrionic public explosion involving physical and emotional violence results, with vow to never speak again, followed by another round of binge-drinking, drunken sex, jealousy, explosion, ad inifinitum.

I'm not exaggerating - sometimes two cycles could occur in a single episode. It gets to the point that you don't care and stop paying attention to the main couple when they're onscreen until Fahlan has his shirt off, because he looks really good with his shirt off. Their endless jealousy fight is so dull and repetitIve that it would have been more entertaining to watch them argue over whether the toilet paper should hang over or under the roll (over the roll unless you're a bad person). I can't believe the author actually thought she was writing a protagonist with Sher - he's a pissy, horrible narcissistic villain. Really, if someone had run up to him in the finale and bludgeoned him to death with a bat, you would have gasped with the realization that there really is a God and that he loves us.

There are two side couples, who talk about absolutely nothing other than Fah and Sher's relationship, except for their own detours into pointless jealousy, public histrionics, and binge-drunkenness, but at least none of the minor characters punch each other in the face all the time.

A lot of people stuck with it for Ping & Tap, who were initially cute and had potential, but they too went around in circles forever until it was hard to care and then their relationship was so anticlimactically resolved that the reaction is, "hunh?" Ping has been pining for Tap for years, and then once they're together Ping behaves like Tap is a poisonous reptile instead of a loving boyfriend, because I presume the writer saw other ukes behave that way and thinks that's how gay couples work. One of them DESPISES SEX WITH A BURNING PASSION but, and only under the greatest duress, gives into the UNNATURAL MONSTROUS LUSTS of another man in order to have someone to protect and take care of him. Yup, that's how real life works.

That leaves us with Gear & Prince, who manage to get through this with merely one histrionic jealousy scene, and when they finally hook up, they're robbed by horrendous cinematography which almost totally obscures what's happening with lens flaring that would make JJ Abrams jealous. They're still better than anything else in this travesty, however.

There's also Pink, the fujoshi, who is eventually exhausted as a cause for jealousy, then spends the rest of the series obsessing over Sher & Fahlan's relationship, dragging around poor Tar and behaving as if he's ugly even if he's the hottest guy on the show (I realize that's debatable, but catch him onstage in the finale).

Sher is a horrible human being who deserves to die alone, not be redeemed through true love. Does anyone really think anyone this awful is going to change overnight? How long to you give him and Fahlan? Two weeks at best.

This show isn't just bad, it's infuriating. It's a complete waste of time with no countervailing redeeming qualities to balance the endlessly repetetive plot. There are attractive guys, but it would be much more economical to cruise the side-characters' social media, and in the case of the main couple, if you're interested in Sher, SEEK COUNSELLING. IMMEDIATELY. If Fah, well, I have to admit you get a lot of shirtless Fah, but I'm sure you can find that somewhere where you don't have to endure this type of torture.

I don't normally say something like this, but please don't watch this. It's because I care about you and your well-being.

IM ONLY 12% AWAKE

I'm scared to write this review. For sure, I'll receive a lot of backlash again for saying bad things about it, but I CANT just keep silent.

First, let's discuss the good things. The outline of the basic plot is good on paper; it's the love story of a couple who have been each other's first loves. In all fairness, the first few episodes were a little slow but engaging. It also feels like they have enough of a budget, as the series looked decent enough. I also appreciate the subtle changes in technology that show the difference in timeline. And yes, the main lead's hairstyle changed after the time jump! Also, let's give props to the actors because they did a good job. Of course, Earth did all the heavy lifting, but we must also acknowledge that Santa did a good job for someone so young and not as veteran as Earth.

Now, for the not-so-good parts. First, and this is totally my own opinion, I hate seeing gay characters who are portrayed as softer and more delicate than marshmallow. It felt like a backward progression for our quest for acceptance when on the  other side of the world, a lot of female characters are being portrayed as EQUAL to their male counterparts. In this day and age, portraying gay men as crybabies and scaredy cats is simply unacceptable.

And then there is the endless crying, especially in the last two episodes. Why, for crying out loud, do they make Earth cry this much? I didn't even know why it was necessary to kill Seeiw's mother just so we could have a last episode that was almost entirely Earth crying. It is not entertaining. It is so boring and unnecessary that whenever he cries, fast forwarding becomes a necessity. In fact, no matter how hard I tried, I was only 12% awake in the last 2 episodes. There are other ways to show how good an actor can be aside from shedding tears. It was a series finale, and the episode could have been used to further the storylines of our characters.

Other readers will kill me for saying this, but as strong as the start is, this felt like a cheap imitation of Love of Siam and I Told Sunset About You; unfortunately, this show can't hold a candle against those classics.

I'm sorry, as much as I adore Earth and Santa, I just cannot rewatch this show. I'm giving it a 7.5 for the effort.

EDIT: To be fair, I thought I couldnt rewatch it but i have and have increased my rating a bit. Thanks for people pointing out that I was also a bit homophobic with my review, I promise Ill be better in the future!

They tried?

I feel bad that I'm giving it such a low rating. But this just didn't measure up and I have to be honest.

I'll try my best to explain why.

The first Color Rush was a combination of light horror and romance. It didn't solve the mystery it introduced, which felt disappointing, but it was great nonetheless.

It knew not to give up absolutely everything about this world with Monos and Probes. And its effects, music, narration, tone, and slow build made it believably "otherworldly." Plus, there was good chemistry between the MLs and a fascinating and twisted balance of power between them. There was mutual feelings and mutual obsession and tension at the mere possibility of them being around each other.

When people saw it they not only wanted the mystery solved/explored they wanted to see more of the unique world they created, right?

This second season fulfilled that wish. Incorrectly. It dumped too much of the world on the viewers and despite being about the same length as the original (about five minutes shorter each episode) constantly rushed through everything. There was no time to process, it was, "Let's get to the next scene." And, the action was weak, there wasn't any believable tension or weight to the story or characters' actions, sets and effects looked too cheap, and the writing wasn't up to par. Not to mention the ML didn't act like his character would have in his situation. I would expect him to have done something rash and/or be wallowing in misery. Rather than that, he seemed just a bit upset and to be going about life fine. Where was the despair? The agony?

And of course, writing out the other ML was the biggest reason this failed. But, we all knew that.

All in all, I'm disappointed but not surprised.

Revenge Never Looked So Good

The title of the drama 春花厌 {Chūn Huā Yàn} means "The Withering Spring Blossom." I feel this is important because it holds the key to the surface of the story but also to the tragedy that the characters are going through. In Chinese, 春花 {chūn huā} means "Spring Blossom": something vibrant and full of life. On the other hand 厌 (yàn) shows feelings of disgust or waiting for things to go awry, like Mei Lin's spirit who was once colorful but now it wears down and withers. ╥﹏╥

The story begins with Prince Murong Jing He - the proud commander of the Weibei Army who successfully reclaims Qingzhou {a lost territory of the Great Yan Dynasty} It’s supposed to be his crowning achievement and a chance to be known as a hero. But things turn dark because a massive fire breaks out soon after he takes back the city and it burns everything in its path and leaving only ruins sorrow behind. Rumors spread everywhere and soon people are branding Murong Jing He as the "Butcher General" They accuse him of ordering the city’s destruction as punishment for Qingzhou’s "betrayal" of Great Yan. His victory turns into something dark and now he is painted as a cold-hearted killer rather than a savior.

Then we meet Mei Lin who is a young girl who loses everything in the flames of Qingzhou. Her entire family is gone and her bright future is reduced to ashes. She now hates Murong Jing He, who she believes is responsible for her pain. She is devastated and alone so she swears to make him pay. Mei Lin joins a secret organization known as the Shadow Works, where she undergoes years of punishing training and physical suffering, she is even made to consume a deadly poison to prove that she can survive.

After years of training, Mei Lin is finally assigned to kill her target aka Prince Murong Jing He. She is then disguised as one of a hundred Xiyan beauties sent to Great Yan in a political marriage alliance and infiltrates his world. She hides her true identity and becomes one of many beautiful faces in the court while she plans to fulfill her vow of vengeance.

But here is the kicker, hehe (ˊ˘ˋ*): Mei Lin doesn't know that Murong Jing He is in fact the mastermind of her life right now and the one behind the Shadow organization she joined. He manipulated the events behind the scenes to ensure she turned into his assassin. In a very twisted way, she has been working her way through a path he had always planned before her because she was blinded by her hate and was willing to follow anyone who could lead her to be successful in her revenge.

But while she is trying to kill him, the sparks between Mei Lin and Murong Jing He are so intense that half the time, I was just thinking "Wait, do they want to kill each other or kiss?" Spoiler: it’s definitely both and it’s absolute fire lmao. I felt like watching the most dangerous love game ever where survival is on the line and the weapons are swords, poisoned tea and those looks they keep giving each other. I think it was part a deadly chess match, part flirtation and I was just screaming at the screen like “JUST KISS ALREADY!” But also “Wait, don’t trust him GIRL!” my emotion's were all over the place ngl because one second they were swinging swords at each other and the next they were exchanging horny stares across the room. It was too much for my brain.

Leaving that aside, even more than the amazing hate-to-love plot, another thing I liked about this show is the psychological part. I mean, you see cool martial arts (and they are great and very badass), but from the start, it felt like the true fight was in Mei Lin's thoughts. She wants revenge but also fights with herself about if the prince is the beast she has been told. You get caught up in her inner fight. Do you cheer for her to beat him, or do you hope they join up and set the world on fire together? (I picked the second one from episode 1, to be honest)

Regarding the male lead, I really loved him because he isn’t just some villainous warlord, the show does a good job giving him mystery and charisma so that you are constantly guessing his true intentions. I love him - he is definitely one of my top “red flags turned green.” As the episodes went on and I started seeing the way he cares about Mei Lin, my heart went weak at him all the damn time. He goes from “dangerous enemy” to “obsessed protector” and I am a sucker for that trope.

The female lead is amazing as well. She is not your typical soft and naive character we are used to in cdramas - she is fierce and has this tough exterior that instantly sets her apart. And I love that beneath all that strength, she is still soft and deeply caring especially when it comes to the main lead. Once their love kicks off, she shows this warmth and loyalty that just melts your heart. She is both a fighter and a lover.

And visually, this show pops. I mean the ethereal landscapes and the detailed costumes look like they belong in a museum, everything is so beautiful, most scenes were a FEAST for my eyes ffs, everything looked so dreamlike especially when the energy between the two leads takes over. It’s like the entire world shrinks down to just the two of them, fighting, plotting, and yearning. Wu Jin Yan and Liu Xue Yi are pure fire on screen, their chemistry legit radiates more heat than that flame which killed 100k people.

Why 8.0?

SPOILER AHEAD – DON’T READ UNLESS YOU FINISHED THE SHOW

I think the last episode was just completely unnecessary. The novel this show is based on actually gives the characters a happy ending, so for the show to go the sad route just doesn’t make any sense to me. After all the build-up, all the intense character development and the way their love grows through betrayal, danger, and everything in between, the tragic ending feels like a slap in the face. They had so much potential as a couple and both Mei Lin and Murong Jing He deserved a real chance at happiness after everything they went through.

If the original source material had a tragic ending, maybe it would have felt fitting or necessary to stay true to that tone. But in this case, it’s not even how the novel ends. Choosing a heartbreaking finish here feels like a forced twist that adds unnecessary sadness to an already intense story. In the end I think its a letdown to deviate so far from the source material, especially when a happy ending would have felt so satisfying and earned after all they went through. I genuinely think this choice was more about shock value than good storytelling and it’s disappointing when you consider how well they handled the rest of the show. Instead of leaving me with a sense of closure, it leaves me asking, “Why did it have to end like this?”

Review of "Ski Into Love": From Hibernation to the Crown

Ski Into Love is a romantic comedy drama with a sports theme, focusing on skiing while also serving as a healing drama. It tells the story of a woman and a man who find themselves at the lowest points in their lives, almost as if they are in hibernation. As they embark on their journey to rise again, they cross paths—two lonely souls who begin to accompany and support each other. Together, they chase their dreams, reclaim their place at the top, and regain their crowns.

Love That Accompanies, Not Heals

One of the most unique aspects of Ski Into Love is its refreshing take on healing. Unlike most healing dramas that portray love as the ultimate cure, this drama presents love as a companionship rather than a remedy. Instead of healing each other’s wounds, the protagonists provide mutual support, encouragement, and motivation to become better versions of themselves. Love here isn’t about fixing someone; it’s about walking alongside them as they rediscover their strength.

The drama’s original title, "The King is Hibernating," is also quite significant. The word "King" is used in a gender-neutral sense, implying that both the male and female protagonists are "kings" in their own right. They are both in a phase of hibernation, struggling to rise again and reclaim their crowns.

A Stronger Adaptation from the Novel

While the drama is adapted from a novel, there are several key differences that enhance the storytelling. The drama delves deeper into character development and provides more logical plot reasoning. One notable change is why Shanchong treats Weizhi differently from other students—this is tied to their first encounter, which left a lasting impression on him. Unlike others, Weizhi unknowingly broke through his emotional walls, making their connection special from the start.

Similarly, the explanation behind why Weizhi doesn’t recognize Shanchong is made more reasonable in the drama, adding depth to their relationship dynamic.

A particularly commendable aspect is Weizhi’s character portrayal. She is depicted as a kind-hearted, funny, smart, talented, and delightful person with a strong spirit and positivity. She brings warmth to every scene, making it impossible not to root for her. She is not just a passive love interest but a strong, career-driven woman who pursues her dreams with determination. Weizhi learns skiing out of her own desire and has a clear vision for her future, making her a much more compelling and inspiring protagonist.

Additionally, the subplot involving plagiarism and AI-generated comics adds a modern and fresh twist. Given that AI in the art and creative industry is a hot topic today, this storyline makes the drama even more relevant and engaging.

Esther Yu’s Exceptional Performance as Weizhi

Esther Yu delivers a phenomenal performance as Weizhi, proving once again why she is the queen of rom-coms. Her acting is natural, effortless, and incredibly charming. She captures every nuance of Weizhi’s personality—her kindness, her liveliness, her intelligence, and her unwavering determination—with absolute perfection.

Esther’s ability to blend comedy, emotion, and charisma makes Weizhi an unforgettable character. She is funny, lovable, and full of life, making her presence on screen an absolute joy to watch. Whether it’s through her adorable expressions, heartfelt moments, or comedic timing, Esther completely embodies the role, making Weizhi one of the most endearing female leads in recent rom-com dramas.

Lin Yi’s Compelling Portrayal of Shanchong & Their Breathtaking Chemistry

Lin Yi as Shanchong also delivers an excellent performance. Although his version of Shanchong differs from the novel—being more of a green flag, gentle, and swoon-worthy character rather than just cool and distant—he brings a refreshing depth to the role.

The chemistry between Esther Yu and Lin Yi is simply unmatched. Their connection has been evident since their time on the variety show "Let’s Go Skiing," and this drama further proves how well they complement each other on screen. The production team truly did a fantastic job uniting these two talented actors, creating on-fire, top-notch chemistry that’s simply irresistible.

Breathtaking Cinematography, OST, and Passionate Production

From a visual perspective, the cinematography in this drama is stunning. The skiing sequences are masterfully shot, making even those unfamiliar with the sport feel excited to try it. The costume design is stylish and aesthetically pleasing, adding to the overall charm.

One of the standout aspects of Ski Into Love is its commitment to realism. Instead of relying on CGI, the team shot on-location with real buildings and breathtaking landscapes. Additionally, all the audio was live-recorded on set, which is incredibly rare for a C-drama. This level of dedication shows just how passionate the team was in bringing this drama to life, making the experience feel more authentic and immersive.

The OST selection perfectly matches the drama’s vibe. Even "True Love" by Esther Yu, originally a song from her birthday album, fits seamlessly into the drama’s atmosphere.

One of the most impressive aspects is the meticulous research done by the production team regarding skiing and comic artistry. Their attention to detail, combined with the live-recorded audio and real scenery, makes this drama stand out in terms of production quality.

Endless Promotional Material – A Treat for Fans!

Another reason why Ski Into Love is such a fun drama to follow is the never-ending promotional content. Thanks to Esther Yu, the ultimate promotion queen, fans are spoiled with a constant stream of promotional material. From behind-the-scenes clips, interviews, posters, and bonus content—there is always something new to enjoy!

Not only is Esther always prepared with tons of promo content, but the production team itself has been extremely generous with sharing extra material. They clearly understand how to keep fans engaged, making it an absolute joy to be part of the fandom.

Whether you're watching the drama, enjoying behind-the-scenes clips, or diving into interviews, there’s always something fun to look forward to. If you haven’t joined in yet, now is the perfect time to jump in and enjoy the ride!

Final Verdict: A Must-Watch Drama!

Ski Into Love is a lighthearted, enjoyable, and visually stunning drama that offers a beautiful blend of romance, sports, and personal growth. With an engaging plot, phenomenal chemistry, and breathtaking cinematography, this drama is an absolute delight to watch.

At the heart of it all, Esther Yu’s incredible portrayal of Weizhi makes this drama truly shine. Weizhi is a fantastic character—kind, smart, talented, full of warmth, and endlessly charming, and Esther brings her to life in the most captivating way possible.

For those looking for a drama with healing elements, a sports theme, rom-com charm, or simply a heartwarming love story, Ski Into Love is the perfect choice. Highly recommended!

And if you love dramas that keep on giving with endless promotional content, fun interactions, and extra surprises, this one is an absolute must-watch. Join in and enjoy—it’s a ride you won’t regret!

" As the drama promotion said, Ski Into Love will keep you company until the last snow falls and spring arrives ❤️"

You know what? I really tried. Some of you might raise eyebrows that somebody is able to drop something when there's only one episode left, but seriously, I do not even care anymore and I'm going to explain exactly why.

Story
Ugly Betty. Which actually made it interesting for the first 10 episodes; also, having worked in this setting before, I was engrossed into the whole editing team problems and how hard is to actually write a successfull magazine. That's till the main characters kept being more focused on their cheesy love story, rather than their overall lives, which almost made them look like a bunch of teenagers that sway at the sight of their other half instead of 30 years old adults, till the last few episodes where the setting was once again picked up, which signed some enjoyable moments overall, but a bit late for me to not feel deeply annoyed about most things at that point; everything was rather unbalanced. But turning back to the romcom part, based on the title, "She was Pretty", I expected a love story about a guy that turned handsome and a girl that turned "ugly" (even though Hye Jin was anything but ugly, more like uncared for). I expected them to fall in love despite their very different priorities and very different styles, to learn to accept eachother for what they are, which they did at one point, but the message was never properly delivered in the end; "She WAS Pretty" had no meaning in the end. As you know, Korea is a society that focuses on looks to the point of obsession, the drama was initially good at showing us that, if you have messy hair and don't apply make up, people are going to look at you almost with disdain, if you're fat, it's even worst, alienation and bullying is going to await you; well, unfortunately, drama didn't manage to keep to its own theme. During the last 6 episodes, it barely even mattered anymore; I felt like I was watching a different show entirely, which was a real pain for me because I really enjoyed it overall up to halfway through. What could have turned out as a memorable fashion-related-setting romcom with the good message of "looks into a superficial world don't necessarily have to matter", fell into the usual troupes of its own genre.

Characters:
Mostly superficial. Bland. Nobody saved itself, besides Shin Hyeok. And let me get this straight. There have been attempts of giving them deepness and character development. I liked Seong Joon's condition, I liked Hye Jin's self sacrificing personality, I liked Ha Ri's inner struggle, but they went nowhere. By episode 15 of the show, Seong Joon turned into a hopeless romantic, Hye Jin turned into an observer, just simply answering and reacting to what was happening (typically romcom heroine), as for Ha Ri, useless tragedy and convenient reason to drag the plot, but I did appreciate her resolve to start doing things on her own, without any help. The rest of the cast? Forgettable, despite being lots of developing potential through the editing team characters as well, but just ignored for the sake of romance. As for, Shin Hyeok, he was the only character that knew and had any shades of "greys". And no, for any one of you that is starting to assume, no, I am not a Siwon fangirl, I didn't even consider his existence till this drama. And no, I did not exactly ship Hye Jin and Shin Hyeok; to be sincere, I did not ship anybody. He was just the character that connected them all and that, in the end, tied them all up and motivated all of them up. If there's a reason why the characters managed to reach that little character development that they had, is exclusively because of Shin Hyeok.

Acting/Cast
Hwang Jung Eum. Oh, Hwang Jung Eum, you are only sweet when you stop overreacting, sweetheart. Comedy doesn't mean overreaction; no, let me rephrase, comedy doesn't mean yelling and hiding under tables, dropping everything in your way and act as if you're on crack 90% of the time. It's the problem that I had with Kill Me, Heal Me comedy as well, when she was involved. For the rest, I must praise Siwon, of course. I don't know if he improoved or not from his last role, but I really liked to witness his famous "derp faces", as well as his funny to bittersweet expression changes. It was very warming. As for Park Seo Joon, I must compliment him when he had to deal with his post-traumatic condition, but besides that, not much else. The rest of the cast was pretty much average, didn't really made me care about their performance.

Music
Forgettable and limited. I can't remember any of the tracks up to now.

Tools/Storytelling/Execution (because I consider them important enough to mention now)

For once I didn't feel that spammed by flashbacks as I usually do when I watch Korean dramas, which is good. The filming was also deal with pretty nicely, I guess. I at least have nothing to complain. What I do have to complain about though, is the storytelling and execution. There are lots of points that are ignored from episode 1 of the show, which people tried to assume, but till an official answer, it just stays as that: assuming. For example (jump over this if you don't want to read SPOILERS), we have Hye Jin complaining and saying that she wished she had Ha Ri's face and body, yet, as the best friend and "wife" Ha Ri is supposed to be, did she try to help Hye Jin? No. Did Hye Jin ask for help? No. Explanation? None. Another one, Hye Jin is asked by the director to be more Most-like and she tried to apply make-up, which she fails horribly. Why did that happen? Pride because she had no intention to ask for help? Then what about later? Somebody that has no idea how to even apply eye-shadows, suddenly becomes able to. How? Errr....And there are more but I'm just going to END SPOILERS HERE.
You might say that nobody cares and these are just me picking on unimportant details; well, I must bring to your attention that these "details" makes the "execution". I do not take a story seriously, when the details just don't match or are skipped over. It's a superficial way of storytelling and execution that I will never aproove of, unless its intent IS clear to be superficial to begin with and have a completely different goal than me focusing on the story.

Overall
It was painful. The reason why I dropped it when I only had one episode left, is because it was so painful to think of what it was and what could have become, that I couldn't bear my frustration anymore. I don't usually drop series. I watch even what doesn't particularly interest me; a good show can be good even if I'm not emotionally invested in it or I can't care less about the topic. I even keep watching it, when I find it bad, but at least I can have fun to point out everything wrong with it. In this case, I couldn't even have the pleasure of laughing at it, for how frustrated I became. If it rode on Kill Me, Heal Me's popularity? Maybe, yes. But I don't count that as the only factor why it failed. And I didn't even like Kill Me, Heal Me either.

Abyss had so much potential with that all stars cast and the fantasy story. However, the drama got quickly boring and messy.

The drama had a nice dynamics between the two leads. They were funny and cute together. However, the romance took forever to progress and the ending was terrible. The mystery part was good at first as well, but it got complicated and messy. Plus, the fantasy part was not properly presented or explained.

At least, the performances were good, as expected, from everyone in the cast and the pacing interesting.

So, five out of ten.

Two Men, One Storm: The Unexpected Pull of To My Shore

Appendix – After Episode 14

Watching up to episode fourteen, *To My Shore* stopped being just a beautifully filmed crush for me and started feeling like sitting with two very real, very damaged people who keep choosing each other in the worst possible ways.

At first, it was easy to float on the smoke and flirtation. Fan Xiao’s voice, the way he leans into Yu Shulang’s space, the pretend coincidences that feel like destiny – all of that still works on a visceral level. But the more the story unfolds, the more it becomes clear that what looked like fate was, in many moments, design. Fan Xiao isn’t just “drawn” to Yu Shulang. He plans, he tests, he interferes. Those dreamy meetings now carry the aftertaste of someone who has never been safely loved trying to build certainty by tightening his grip.

Yu Shulang, too, has shifted for me. In the beginning he read as almost impossibly composed – a man with clean edges and tidy morals. After fourteen episodes, he feels much more breakable. You can see how much of that calm is simply practice: an orphan who learned early that if you keep yourself small and steady enough, you can survive almost anything. Watching him slowly open up, only to realise how much of what he’s standing on was manufactured by Fan Xiao, hurts in a way the early romantic framing doesn’t prepare you for.

And yet, what keeps me invested is that the show never treats either of them as monsters. Fan Xiao is cruel, but his cruelty is legible: a child who watched love fail catastrophically, now terrified of being left behind again, building elaborate ways to make sure people can’t leave. Yu Shulang is kind, but his kindness is not saintly; it comes with tiredness, with anger, with that quiet, tired look of “I thought I was done suffering like this.” They are not tropes so much as two people whose worst habits happen to collide with each other’s softest spots.

By episode fourteen, the tension I once read as deliciously romantic has turned into something more complicated. When Fan Xiao looks at Yu Shulang now, I don’t just see longing. I see guilt, stubbornness, and a fear so old it doesn’t know how to do anything but hold tighter. When Yu Shulang looks back, there’s still that flicker of attraction, but it’s buried under the knowledge of exactly how much was a lie. The show sits in that discomfort and doesn’t rush to soothe it.

For me, that’s where *To My Shore* has quietly grown up. It’s still gorgeous. It still knows how to flirt. But by fourteen episodes in, it’s also honest about how love from wounded people can be selfish, clumsy, and deeply unfair. It’s no longer just a story about two men who “reroute” each other in a poetic sense. It’s about what it costs to change course when your whole survival has been built on never trusting anyone to stay.

As an appendix to my first review, I’d say this: the early episodes made me excited for episode three. Everything up to episode fourteen has made me nervous – in a good way – about how far the show is willing to let these two hurt each other before it dares to talk about healing. It’s still a romance. But now, it’s also a slow, painful study of how hard it is to unlearn the idea that the only way to keep someone is to never let them go.

……….

To My Shore starts like a quiet romance novel that suddenly discovers how to flirt. The first two episodes unfold with a slow, smoky elegance that pulls you in before you realize what’s happening. The dialogue is lush, almost musical, and Fan Xiao’s low, textured voice could convince anyone that gravity is optional. Honestly, half the show feels like a BL audio drama someone accidentally filmed.

The “coincidences” between Fan Xiao and You Shu Lang are anything but. They’re storybook encounters wrapped in fate, like two characters who keep drifting into the same chapter no matter how far apart they begin. Fan Xiao arrives with a teasing edge, poking at You Shu Lang’s overly saintlike calm. But somewhere in episode two, that teasing shifts. The tension turns softer. His gaze stops being a game and starts being a confession he hasn’t said out loud yet.

What makes it compelling is the transparency. Fan Xiao pretending to be lost is probably the least believable lie in the entire show. This man doesn’t lose his way. He chooses it. And what he’s really choosing is You Shu Lang. The directions are just an excuse to get close, to pull this orderly, gentle man into a world that runs on instinct and intensity.

And that contrast is exactly where the magic lives. You Shu Lang moves through life with clean moral lines. Fan Xiao moves like a beautiful storm that refuses to stay outside. When they meet, something shifts. Not dramatically, not loudly. Just a quiet, thrilling imbalance that hints at a love story waiting to tip over.

If these first two episodes are the foundation, then To My Shore is shaping up to be a story about two men who don’t just collide—they reroute each other. It’s about discovering that getting lost can sometimes lead you somewhere you were meant to find.

And yes, episode three cannot arrive fast enough.

One thing is sure- this is the best drama in Reply series and the best Korean family drama I have ever seen. I can't stand makjang, I can't stand Korean family dramas of 50 episodes and I don't watch them. Nor I was some fan of previous Reply series. I find them overrated and not interesting enough but this one really got me. It was on different level in terms of family relationship and bonding, in terms how each member of those families has won me and made me fall in love with all of them.

Honestly, I have never got attached to more than one family in some drama but here I got too deep into the story of every family. Their interactions, their actions, their conversations, it all felt so raw, so real and so damn natural. I totally had a feeling like they're my neighbors and their kids my friends.

The reason why I love this Reply so much is also cause of the '80s, that nostalgic period of time where my parents were young and had their own kids and friends like the adults in this Reply, that period of time where some of the best movies and music artists appeared. I love how they made all so real, like in the real '80s, from their clothes, make up, haircuts, electrical devices, houses to music, movies, cinemas, bars, taverns. Production is awesome for this drama, I don't have one single complain about that. Plus OST is so wonderful, some songs are made to be danced to them, some are so melancholic with some sad tones and some are so beautiful and made for pure enjoyment while listening them.

I didn't care for the husband hunt. I really didn't care. While in other two Reply dramas that romance part was much more important and pretty much the whole drama plot, here it was just on the outside the main plot but actually inside of it that was the least important. Here words like family, friends, childhood, bonding, neighbors are way more big than romance. Which worked totally fine for me.

These families are pure gold. I laughed so much with them, I cried with them, I rooted with them, cheering with them, screaming and yelling with them, I was singing and dancing with them, they did all that to me. One family though stood up the most and that would be the Kim's. Omo, family like that is so freaking rare, I mean president Kim must be the most unique and funny dad ever with most gentle and good heart, his wife, Mi-ran is one hell of a mom, the coolest mom ever and so crazy, I seriously adore that woman, she carried the whole show for me truthfully. And their kids, JB- one big guy with big dreams who always wants to help everyone and always smiles, such a sensitive, romantic and funny soul; and JH- oh well I could talk about that guy whole night and day.
He is for me the most complex character in this drama, the one who was the most selfless, most realistic and strong one, yes the one who didn't show his feeling to the end to anyone ever but through his actions you could feel and see that, sometimes words aren't enough to say and explain what heart feels and agree completely with that saying. You could feel his emotions if you'd want to, that's what I think. And no matter what he was there for everyone, for his parents- how he in one episode did that stupid joke with his dad just to make him smile, how he continued to follow and to accomplish his brother's dream, how he prepared that awesome surprise for his mom's birthday, how he helped Taek in some way in most crucial moment, how he drank with Sun-woo in silence and was beside him to comfort him, I mean he is just too perfect and I was so satisfied and my heart was full when I saw him smile at the end, I knew he was happy. ;)

There are others I loved, Mr. Choi-Taek's dad, very cool and charismatic man, Bo-ra with all her intelligence and vulnerability combined with being strong and tough, DR- the hilarious, funny, crazy and always supportive friend who just knows what to say and when, so many wonderfully written characters are in this drama and that is what captured me. And their friendship, between those little 5 friends from their childhood till who knows when, they had so much fun together, so many sad moments, difficult moment, amazing and adventurous ones, I can only admire that powerful bond they had. And those three women, their craziness in their ages, their full loyalty to each other and care, just fantastic. That is what drama is about. Completely firm and undeniable friendship.

One thing I just didn't like is that romance part. It was weak for my taste and two last episodes were really weak from that point. I didn't mind who was the hubby at the end, well I was sad and cried a little and watched all I could find about other second lead but I accepted as DS's decision and her choice. And that was what actually bothered me. I won't say much cause opinions are so subjective and different so from my point of view I couldn't feel her chemistry in that amount with neither of them. I felt and saw love from second lead's and from main guy but from her head and heart it was too rushed and even after I read many things about clues and all those feelings, yes I could see that he was the one but as for her, it was too rushed and not deep at all. Also what made me angry it was that part when you make some guy to be a main role, having his narrating, voice, feelings, actions, everything from his point of view and then not include him in last two episode with enough screen time, I think it's very unfair and illogical. At least we should see how they stayed as cool as before, how they talked about that what he said even as a joke, at least they should say one damn sentence at the end as adults- like he is there and there, and also about DR, I mean those guys are main leads in this drama, they deserve it. I didn't like how it all came down to the Sung's, DS , Bo-ra and happenings only in that family.
But that is of course my own opinion. As for the rest it is absolutely amazing and outstanding drama and it should be seen most definitely. it is truly one heartwarming, sweet, great story about one little part of the neighborhood, families who live there, their kids, their stories, their adventures, their lives. And everyone of us could easily identify with them. I know I did and it was a great and unforgettable journey.
Kim Jung Hwan, I'll miss you, good bye ;)

Sorry if this goes against the general opinion but this drama is just a giant ball of frustration and disappointment for me.

1. The beginning of the episode was interesting but then it just gets boring.
2. The main characters in the show are just really unlikable and there are no character development at all.
3. Its just stupid to think that the main character is smart and daring enough to run his security/pimp operation but then all of his other actions shows him just being a wimpy, indecisive and scared kid.
4. No backstory to explain what happened or why the characters are in these situation. Pretty convenient that Jisoo just happened to be saved by an ex-military man and proceeds to form a loyal partnership?
5. Positive is when we are not being frustrated, we are treated to some good and thrilling scenes that keeps you wanting more.

I'll start off by saying that I love Zhao Lusi and she's the main reason I started watching. ZYC is also a hottie, so that made the series on my watch list for sure. However, I was actually quite disappointed by the storyline and editing, so this actually landed on my skip list after finishing.

Con#1: While other people were upset about Zhao Lusi's impersonation, I was actually upset about the first girl that took over Zhao Lusi's limelight. When I realized it was deliberate, I was more appeased, but the sudden character change felt jarring. The transition wasn't smooth, which brings me to:

Con #2: Terrible, terrible editing for this drama. I heard the production for this series was expensive, but they couldn't have invested a bit more money post-production to string the storyline better? Everything felt like it JUST occurred out of the blue and there's no rhyme or reason behind it.

Con #3: Much too creepy acting from ZYC. A lot of fans might think the way he spoke and acted was just flirty, but I actually found it very cringey. Nevermind the stalking for over 1000+ years, nevermind the random walk-in to her bedroom in the middle of the night, nevermind the deliberate teasing and touching of her when she was trying to get the lamp, nevermind any and all of that. Just the way he said her name made me cringe so hard...it felt too intimate.

Con #4: Second Prince Er Lang. Dude they really selected a good actor to play dumb. They did so well that I couldn't register him as the 2nd Prince when he revealed his identity. It was always Er Lang ?. And while he had the princely stature, he just didn't have the gravita to carry such a role. I felt the First Prince (his brother) was hot though lol and although he's punier in comparison, he was convincing.

Con #5: So many freaking plotholes. The ending sucked. There was zero explanation about it. Somehow things always manage to conveniently occur or appear when it's critically needed. Things just HAPPENED. No leadup to why.

Con #6: There was little to no character growth for any of the characters, with exception to Xuan Zhu. She was very consistent throughout the drama and in the end, although she made the ultimate sacrifice, she's aware of herself enough that point to know that it wasn't all altruistic. I enjoyed that. She was true to herself and took action to do what she wanted.

The con list is somewhat long , but I'm sure there's more.

The only pros with this drama is that it started Zhao Lusi, ZYC, Dai Yun Fan and Molly Wang to make a very watchable cast. The rest is utterly forgettable.

Not to my liking

There are many high ratings here but I personally did not enjoy this show that much. I also think getting a 10 is abit of an overstretched.

Main leads are decent here, nothing to hate or love. FL character is pretty bland, her profession & gaming is nothing special , even why she liked the ML is nothing in depth too. ML on the other hand is more interesting even though it's another built to be perfect character, good at gaming, aerospace engineer, good looking, sweet towards FL. Both yang yang and reba have good chemistry but not the best. YY did better in this show maybe because he is very well suited for "nerdy" roles like love o2o, while i always thought reba's acting was ok only and her character doesn't pulls me in as well.

Plot is also weak; i liked that it explores aerospace and all but the gaming part don't blend in well.

Final verdict: It's a decent watch if u are into visuals, but its not fantastic and too overhyped.
