What will you expect in pure slice of life? Dramatic life-changing character development? An interesting conflict? XD
Koreeda's power lies in the ambience, the nuance, the flow of the overall movie and the little messages implied within. Dont expect anyting drastic ... :)

actually, the so called abuse scenes is just in 2 episodes; and its not as bad as everyone thinks. But yeah, it portrayed very good emotionally and realisticly ....
I dont understand, why everyone scared watch just 2-3 little scenes of child abuse in Mother, but gladly watch numerous devilry scenes in kdrama melodrama/revenge ??
I can see in the future that ending song will be abused (for good) to make us cry. Just like nakigao smile in Mother
