I know you're probably not looking anymore, but Fall in Love fits the bill to a T. The male lead apparently falls in love with the female lead by first sight, he's a military officer who is ambitious and wants to take over Shanghai, he manipulates events to have the female lead work with him, and she starts falling in love with him, though I had a feeling ML fell in love first, in the very first scene on the ship. The Male Lead is so handsome in his fabulous outfits, and his brilliant mind makes him all the more attractive, he sees the enemies moves before he makes his own and plans accordingly, that's how he manages to get his girl. The Chinese name 一见倾心 literally means 'Fall in love at first sight' so ... we can safely assume that the Male lead goes out of his way to get his girl.
