So far, I think the Korean adaption is done quite well. I would say that the major difference in the Korean and…
Ι agree, especially since the episodes are around one hour whereas the episodes on the Japanese version were around 35 minutes. So they have about 25 minutes to work on the characters' background. The South Korean version has some good hints of electronica as well though :D
I can't forget the name of the announcer on the first season of Liar Game, Leronira, it sounds so cult xD
Jun Woong In must have the villain role flowing inside his veins. Just like on I Hear Your Voice he was a psychotic and utterly merciless up to an extent, then we get to see behind the mask. On Endless Love series that recently finished airing, he's an exceptional villain as well, you would never like to be around him for any reason.
I love the way you put it "your personal opinion will always be in the first place". That couldn't be…
Thanks a lot for your kind words :D I haven't watched The Hunger Games so i can't dive deeper in the comparison :P It's good that it's been a welcome amount of time since you watched the Japanese adaptation, the less fresh it is on your mind the more you'll appreciate the South Korean effort, at least i think so :D It required guts for the whole Liar Game team to present a brand new environment of the series and it works well for me. It would be too easy to copy the Japanese version and it would be even easier to fail at it since dystopia ain't the strongest of South Korean series. Re-adapting an adaptation wouldn't do justice to the overall effort, yet a brave effort is always welcome and hopeful of the outcome it may have.
Great article . I LOVE THIS SHOW... I've watched both seasons of the original and I must say i like this version…
Yeah, at first he was giving that kind of cold stare and right on the next second a Fukunaga explosion was roaring all over the place! Same goes for his "emotional" moments trying to fool Nao, he was so good he couldn't be true :P Thanks for your encouraging words, time shall tell if i'll write any episode review or not :D Episode 5 was really good, the fact that episodes are about 1 hour each lets them unfold the side-stories of the characters really well, later on i'm gonna dive into the 6th one!
Great article . I LOVE THIS SHOW... I've watched both seasons of the original and I must say i like this version…
Thanks a lot for your words! :D Yep, i appreciate the fact that they made Da Jung more tolerable, one can easily take advantage of her, but she doesn't make you wanna shoot yourself the way Nao did, even Jesus wasn't that innocent anime-silly, at least once he turned the tables upside down XD Nao would agree to get crucified twice instead of once lol. The truth is, i miss Fukunaga's sudden grotesque outbursts of laughter in anime-spastic visuals :P BUT, the Fukunagaesque (xD) character is really good, she makes you feel as if she was lying even if she doesn't. I think they will make the number of episodes grow in time.
I wouldn't say it's NOT a copy but a remake, since they DO copy the games and strategies exactly, so it's not…
Well, if they even changed the games and the strategy it would be something totally different. But it was still brave to fix a new environment around the game and some of the characters, like Da Jung, she's got a different background from Kanzaki Nao :D Yep, Matsuda Shota's mix of confident sharp stare and slightly smiling face when he was messing around others' plans was definitely a highlight, but i enjoy the deadly serious face Woo Jin. Already knowing what's going on in the games factor when it comes to remakes is always a small minus, so i try to emphasize on the overall vibes that are being presented. But each one to his/her standards and preferences :D I'm really curious up to which point they will take Liar Game, if the number of episodes will grow, etc.
i'm still not sure that I like it being a TV show, it takes the mysterious and dark concept away for me. it being…
Yes! The Russian roulette scene was awesome! Fukunaga xD
Well, the way i see it, as i wrote in a reply below, about the darkness factor of the Japanese Liar Game.. in the South Korean adaptation these vibes are being depicted through a game that smells rotten and corrupted underneath all these TV show lights, modern decadence or something. Instead of making it underground by all means necessary, they brought it to the surface, well, it's the Korean touch too ;P Hope you'll enjoy it :D
Great article! At first I didn't like that they made it into a TV show, but I got used to it and the story is…
Thanks a lot! :) In the beginning it was kind of bizarre indeed to be presented as a TV-show if you were used to Japanese one, but the way they supported the overall attempt was pretty successful. Yep, they stick to the arch scenario without failing to blend it with the South Korean maximalism when it comes to their series. In the Japanese version there's an omnipresent sense of mystery and darkness, in the South Korean adaptation these vibes are being depicted through a game that smells rotten and corrupted underneath all these TV show lights, modern decadence or something :D
Wow your article is awesome ;) I watched the first season of the Japanese version, and am now watching the Korean…
Thanks a lot for your words! Yes, both the script/staff and the cast support very well the changes from the Japanese adaptation so far. The actors are doing a pretty good job on depicting their characters' world, let's hope it can only get even better in the future episodes :D
Great article!! Personally I didn't read the manga and I only watched the first episode of the Japanese version…
Thanks a lot! Yep, the plot is pretty intriguing so far and i really do hope it will flow in a like-minded way in the future until the very end. There are distinctive differences between the Japanese and the South Korean adaptations (so far), so if your curiosity leads you to the Japanese Liar Game after you finish this one i think it will reward you (a big plus is that most of the episodes are somewhere around 35 minutes so it's being devoured quite easily in terms of time).
I totally want to watch but one episode a week is torture! So I'm waiting a bit to start! Have faith we will watch…
That's what i was thinking, i started it a few days before the 8th episode was out and i watched 7 episodes in two days' time and now i'm left waiting in self-punishment at the drama corner :P
I'm currently on episode 7 and i'm waiting for the subs of the 8th one. I started it all of a sudden after some recommendations and it's totally worth watching, it would never feel like spending your time on it, more like investing it. It displays really well the problems, dilemmas and social discrimination a modern woman can be faced with even in modern societies due to patriarchal "values" and "ethics" in which a man's always ethical, especially when he wields money and power, whereas a woman can truly suffer, at her workplace, at home, wherever, especially when she is a public figure. The Greatest Wedding wants to deliver some messages and it does it well, a bit in an exaggerating manner sometimes, but since exaggerating things happen in modern reality they are not far from reality. And it depicts the South Korean reality, but it surely relates to other realities around the world. I utterly dislike Hyeon Myeong Yi as a character, but Uhm Hyeon Kyeong supports it well. I can't digest the subhuman reporter Jo Eun Cha either, but Bae Su Bin is exceptional for this role, he's oily, he'd sell even his mother for a higher position and he has no morals. Although at least for once he showed a sign of humanity deep inside when he rushed to get Cha Gi Yeong at the hospital. Hopefully enough they'll pay for their actions and words, even for their thoughts because they couldn't be better. I'm looking forward to the next episodes, so far i'm impressed. And i enjoy the humorous moments as well! Park Tae Yeon isn't the best character either, but he's not at the bottom of the pit, No Min Woo supports his role well. All the secondary figures play well, even the last in line inside the cast play well their "ethical" and "discriminative" role. Park Shi Yeon is divine *hides* Just some sparse thoughts since it's super recent to me. Well done on the article! :D
It's been months since i last watched a movie, but i don't regret even a single second i passed with Still the Water. R15+ due to very few scenes. You have to adore the visuals of the overall scenery the movie's taking place and the emotional charge or tranquility of everything it depicts. Yoshinaga Jun is gonna be a great actress, her stare is from another world in this movie, it tells more than words would ever try to tell at times.
