This movie was so beautiful, definitely a must watch. And to think it's based on real life, sometimes there are happy endings ^^ The actors really should've won those awards, they certainly deserve them.
I was so shocked when I found out about it! I am so so happy they filmed it here >/////
What's this? A fellow countryman? :D Čau!!! Bieži negadās satikt kādu savējo kam arī patīk āzijas seriāli ^^ Un tu arī esi The Untamed fans? Nudien savējie :D
This was short & to the point for those who are new - good article. I'm a fan of Novoland, wish that I could get my hands on the novels as well, oh well, at least we have the dramas.
Looks interesting. Especially since it only has 24 episodes, which is rare for Chinese dramas. Seems enough for…
Actually, for these youth & rom-com dramas 24 is the usual number for eps. It's the palace/politics historical's and wuxia/xianxia who tend to be 40-50-60 eps long.
Ok, since Tencent could somehow give us The Untamed despite the censorship just with looks & glances alone AND Youku pretty much said censorship?what censorship? lip reading is the real deal! with Word of Honor - I sincerely hope IQiyi will deliver with this one as well!!! Needless to say, I love the novel and bilibili did fantastic job with the donghua and it's super amazing, so my hopes for this live action are...well...pretty high XD Hope they get everything ok - screenwriting, directing, cast, post-production, music etc. TGCF is one of my absolute fav novels and since now I know they can pull off those beloved BL novel's despite censorship...hype is real ;D I just hope they'll keep to the plot & characters as much as possible.
Gong jun and Zhang Zhe han so we can kind of continue from WOH, like another dimension and reincarnation to be…
Gong Jun could definitely pull off Hua Cheng, but ZZH for Xie Lian...umm...not in my eyes. I don't want actors cast together for different roles just because they worked as a pair in previous drama; if the new roles suit, sure, but if not...I'd rather the casting people not be influenced by netizens. In my eyes LuHan would be the perfect Xie Lian - has those heavenly looks, can pull off goofiness as well as heartbreak and there will be lots of that tragedy. Eh, whatever, I just hope whomever they cast can pull it off and the screenwriting gives them everything as close to novel as possible. I wonder when they will announce casting results...
This was a very interesting article, nicely done ;)
As for me, of course I'd prefer a happy ending, thou I'm fine with bittersweet as well and while sad endings do make me sorrowful, I do not hate them as long as they're well written and makes sense. Same goes for happy endings - if it's forced, rushed, does not make sense - I don't like it.
In fact, I'd say that's what matters most to me whether it's a happy, bittersweet or sad ending - as along as it's well written, follows the story & characters and thus leads to a logical conclusion - I can accept it and be ok with it, thus to me it's a good ending, instead of just being "happy". I don't really need it to be realistic per se, but just follow the story & characters, no sudden 180 degree turns that are completely out of the blue and make no sense for the characters to make such actions.
I think QuippeQuest had a really good video on this topic on what makes a good or bad/sad ending for a drama and I agree - happy ending does not always necessarily means it's a good one, it might be rushed or make no sense and thus even if it's "happy" with leads surviving & being together or what not, it's not a good one and thus I won't like it. Likewise, sad does not automatically mean it's a bad ending, it might in fact be amazingly good, just sad.
So for me a happy ending is a well written one that follows the story & characters and whether it ends in mostly happiness, bittersweetness or sadness I'd like it anyways.
Also, there are times I might be curious about a dramas ending beforehand, but most of the time I don't really care and don't want to lose the genuine reaction from watching the drama thus don't look to know how it ends. Moreover, by now I can pretty much already tell by drama synopsis, genre etc whether it'll end happy/sad and thus be prepared if need be and know in what kind of mood to watch it.
And since I'm pretty much ok with all endings as long as they're good aka well written etc, I just watch dramas with sad or happy ending accordingly to my current mood/emotions. If I'm in a good mood and don't mind feeling sad - I can watch one where the leads die or they all end up miserable, or if I'm not in the mood to cry, I'll watch smt that is for sure gonna make me smile and end happily.
I'd say my ratings for dramas do not depend solely on the ending either, 'cuz like it was said - that's just a part of the drama, the overall impression weighs more on how I'll rate it. And also, for some dramas it's the message delivered in it that matters more whether it ends happy or not.
I suppose to me the main reason why I'd want a happy ending is like someone already said - I've invested my emotions in these characters, don't care that they're fiction, my heart feels for them and thus I want them to have their happily ever after at the end, especially if they went through a whole bunch of suffering, otherwise it indeed feels like they wasted their efforts for nothing and in fiction we'd rather have them reach that happiness.
CQL is one of my absolute fav dramas and the chemistry between Xiao Zhan as Wei Ying and Wang Yibo as Lan Zhan was phenomenal and I also adored their characters and my heart broke for their suffering, thus, since this one gives a similar feeling I've been really looking forward to it and hell yes it paid off - love it as well :D Looks like I'll have another precious gem to add to my hoard of dramas that are simply unforgettable - Word of Honor is fantastic what with their chemistry also being off the charts and characters just as fascinating and enthralling :D
I mean, not everyone has to like it. Most people who disliked it had reasons that did not include the scandal.…
Of course not everyone dislikes it because of the scandal, but far too often we see dramas/movies suffer when a lead actor has some sort of scandal. That's really just sad. People then forget the actor/actress are only 1 person while the making of drama/movie was the effort of hundreds. While the older dramas aren't affected as much by it, the newer ones get the worst of it. Eh.
Why does it feel like people are now hating on the drama just because of the FL's actress' scandal? That's so wrong on so many levels - her personal life has nothing to do with the drama which was made years ago, moreover, she's not the only one who worked on this drama, it's like people are completely disregarding the efforts other actors & staff had put in just because of what one person did years later...so sad. For me - liked the drama before, like it now.
Yup, Love & Redemption definitely deserves the first place!
lolz, yeaaaah, I'm so tired of all these "love" "legend" and "romances" in titles...it's like they're so lazy to try and find a more fitting title in English for the dramas if it sounds even a tiny bit of a mouthful when directly translated, such a shame, cuz the original ones really do tend to be quite lovely and definitely more fitting.
I had been waiting for what feels like an eternity for The Wolf! SO glad it finally got to see the daylight! Thou too bad they had to make lots of re-shoots and editing's due to the ever changing censorship.
Actually, I've seen quite a lot of the dramas mentioned, will check the rest as well. Very thoroughly made article, nice :)
Whaaaat? That drama was a huge hit? Well...talk about different tastes. After 2 or 3 episodes, or maybe it was 5, I couldn't stand it anymore and dropped the drama, it was way too annoying. Well...good for those who enjoyed it, heh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bring on the romance censored to bromance ;D
