Hello! I am Soju, and I am starting an article series where I will be curating and recommending Thai dramas based on specific tags. Today's article will be surrounding the tag: "Arranged Marriage".

Most of the time, when I search for dramas, I search for specific things I want to watch at that time. For example: "possessive men", "rich female, poor male", and so on.

I'm sure that a lot of you are also like that too. That is why I thought that while promoting Thai dramas to more people here, I could also give like-minded people something new to watch.  ^_^

Click on the images to be redirected. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Article looks better in light mode.

Episodes: 29
Duration: 1hr

Introduction:

In order to get news, Nit (Kwan), follows Pawee (Oil) and his father (Ui) to a psych ward where she finds out that Pawee's mother (Pie) is still alive and not dead as his father had announced to the media. Nit's mother  (Ampha) who is a nun, goes to the psych ward to see Pawee's mother, to talk to her often, there Pawee's mother, who went crazy from Pawee's playboy father, begins to form a bond with Nit.
After some time, Pawee's father is able to comfort Pawee's mother to go home. Pawee's mother hates Pen at first sight and forces Pawee to marry Nit. Will Pawee and Nit fall in love? How will their relationship be after all the twists and turns?

There is an equally popular, if not even more famous, 2006 version of the drama that the viewers often express their admiration for.
You might like that too. ^_^

Episodes: 13
Duration: 2hrs
Genre: Romance, Drama

Introduction:

Sakkarn (Aum) is never the same when his lover commits suicide right in front of him after an argument. Psychologically destroyed, Sakkarn can't seem to get his life back on track, constantly tortured by the memories of his dead lover.

Seeing the way that Sakkarn is tormenting himself and spiraling day by day, his mother (Duangta) decides to arrange a marriage between her best friend's daughter, Purimarn (Margie), and her son. Hoping that the bright and lovely girl will be able to make a ripple in the stillness in Sakkarn's heart.

  • The OST is beautiful. Secondly, Aum and Margie perform well as their characters.

  • Also, Mae Duangta is not acting a bad role. I can always love a drama where she isn't bad.
    Thank you, Lakorn Lords!

  • I would just like to say: Please be prepared to feel frustrated with the male lead and the second female lead.

  • Also, if you can't stand over the top, peppy female leads, you might not like Margie so much in the beginning.

Episodes: 14
Duration: 1hr 45min
Genre: Romance, Drama, Historical, Action, Fantasy*

Introduction:

To show gratitude to her adoptive father (Mam), Rin (Bella) accepts to disguise herself as his real daughter and marry Saran (James Ji), to keep the promise their fathers had made in the past. Saran is a cold-hearted guy who suffers from his previous love. Although he knows that Rin's adoptive family has deceived him, he does not wish to return his bride, since he gets to know her beauty and kindness.
Love slowly grows. But soon their love is tested, when Duangsawad (
Mint), his ex-lover, returns to him, while Rin also feels guilty with the secret she is hiding from him.

  • The OST is beautiful, especially if you attempt to find the English lyrics of the songs.

  • Bella and James Ji's chemistry is extremely beautiful.

  • I enjoyed how Bella was not the type to silently take flak from anyone. She gave it back.

  • The side stories are not boring, so that's good and well.

  • Fantasy* - the drama has 'black magic' performing bandits, which is extremely thrilling to see.
  • You will want to kick Saran and Duangsawan in the face multiple times.

  • Duangsawan is in the "Top 5 Most Shameless SFL" list for me. Like, "Oh, I've slept with him, I'm his wife now!" No sis, you're his mistress—totally two different things oof.

  • Saran had an inferiority complex when it came to wealth. Especially when applied to his life partner. He felt comfortable liking Rin when she was "poor" and an adopted daughter/maid — as opposed to when she found her real identity.

  • I kinda wish we saw more sweet scenes in the end.

Episodes: 16
Duration: 1hr 35min
Genre: Romance, Crime, Historical, Action, Fantasy*

Introduction:

Suer Pa (Michael) is an outlawed bandit of Praiwaree. However, he is not like the others and does not wish to live his life stealing and harming others. So he teams up with the local police by going undercover for them — in hopes that he will be able to turn his life around if he does the right thing.
In between, he meets Mom Luang Petch Nampeung (Mookda), a runaway duchess, and the fiancé of his arch-enemy the sheriff (Euro). Because of life-threatening circumstance,  Suer Pa has to kidnap Petch and even marry her in order to protect her life and his secret. However, when love begins to bloom, how can a bandit and royalty find a happy ending?

  • Good  OST.

  • Michael & Mookda have good chemistry.

  • The plot is very interesting! The play between fantasy (their black magic practicing) and historical setting is definitely attention catching.

  • This lakorn was one of the number lakorn while it was airing in Thailand, it was very popular.
  • Honestly, I have none so far. Oh! Oh! You might not like ML making the girl think that they had xxx just to make her stay, a couple of times. Nothing happened, of course.

Episodes: 17
Duration: 2hrs
Genre: Romance, Drama, Comedy

Introduction:

Chai Rong (Pope) was supposed to be in an arranged marriage with Srijittra (Nychaa), the eldest daughter of the Rachadamri family. However, he fell in love with Koy (Atthama) who his family refused to let him get married to as she was a divorcee. His 'arranged fiancee', on the other hand, is a filial child and so she easily accepts her future. Preparing to wed into royalty.
One day, Srijittra's younger sister, Salin (
Namtarn), visits her sister and sees Chai Rong and his lover kissing. What happens next is a tale full of twists which eventually leads to Salin and Chai Rong falling in love with each other.

I  have to watch this to gossip about it folks. Although if you guys have watched it — feel free to gossip in the comments section, I love spoilers ehem.

Episodes: 15
Duration: 1hr 30min
Genre: Romance, Historical

Introduction:

When Prajak's (Tik) younger brother, Lek (Sorawit), takes a hefty loan from the loan shark, Dao (Montree).
Dao — who wants to marry his only child, Wanida (Aff), into a nice family — puts out the condition that if the Lek is not able to pay back the money, he will marry Wanida.
However, not wanting to marry Wanida nor able to pay the debt, Lek runs away leaving Prajak — who is already in love with Samai (Joy) — to offer himself in his brother's place.
On the other hand, unaware of everything, Wanida agrees to marry Prajak, and so begins their chaotic journey to love.

  • Wanida gives tit for tat. You slap her, she slaps you back. Twice.

  • Tik was very handsome at that time. Ah, my OG Khun Chai ❤︎

  • Enjoy the beautiful vintage OSTs that we can only find in Historical Thai lakorns. <swoons>

  • Everyone acts so well. They embody their characters. Bless it be, I think after watching certain things I am finding available nowadays — coming back to this show makes me feel like these guys deserve Oscars.

  • What would lakorns be without amazing servant characters? Not lakorns, that's what!
  • Everyone is slapping everyone. Everywhere.

  • The male lead is just as clear about his feelings as a glass of murky river water. There is a point in the drama where you can clearly see that he's in love with Wanida and not his ex-fiancée anymore. But then, he goes around letting his ex leech off of him and holds his hand while he stares at the female lead with sad, puppy eyes.

  • Samai is also in my "Top 5 Most Shameless SFL" list.  Like, yes I know your fiance just got stolen from you but why do you have to go all out and move into their house even after you can see that your lover clearly loves someone else now?

  • This has an evil mother-in-law.

Episodes: 14

  • I don't need to watch this one know just how much of a pain this one is going to be.

  • This one is for the seasoned "SlapKiss" viewers who can stomach extreme ridiculousness in the lakorn without damaging any of their personal property. Such as their TV screens, their teddy bears, and so on.
[here, listen to the OST. may contain spoilers.]

Episodes: 15
Duration: 1hr 38min
Genre: Romance, Drama

Introduction:

A lakorn involving an arranged marriage that wasn't meant to be. Bee's (Margie) cousin (Bella) should have married Mark (Boy), but the day before the wedding, her cousin was kidnapped by a guy who had loved her for years. He kidnapped her, assaulted her, got her pregnant, and thus everything changed. The young and bratty Bee had to take the place of her cousin because it was a marriage to erase a debt. Her uncle owed money to Mark and his father. Since he can't use his daughter, he'll use his niece instead.
Margie's courage to rock that awful bowl cut. No one can rock it like Margie. Gotta give it to Margie!

Bella is going to be a very trying person in this drama.

For all the Bella stans who have always watched her play the female lead, you've been warned.

Introduction:

This is a story of two close families that promised and agreed on their children's marriage before they were born. Madam Lamphao (Honey), the head of the Wichanee family, has two daughters: An elder daughter called Rojanasnai (Namtarn) and her youngest Romereuthai (Saiparn). The elder sister already has a lover named Prawut Wuttisak (Ta). While Madam Preme (Tong), the head of Pathamakul family, has only one son called Paat Pathamakul (Ken).

When the time came, and the youngest daughter Romereuthai learned that she had to marry a son of her mother's friend, she refused, not wanting to marry Paat who she thought was a country bumpkin. Left with no choice,  Madam Lamphao then focused her attention on Rojansnai, who also refused since she had a lover.

In order to force her older sister into marrying in her place, Romereuthai heartlessly revealed that Rojanasnai is not her real sister but has been taken care of by Madam Lamphao because of the goodness of her heart. Left with such a heavy feeling of gratitude and debt, Rojanasnai agrees to the marriage.

But then Paat finds out that he is being married off to an adopted daughter, and he isn't pleased about this at all.

[yes, it is mandatory]

Introduction:

Sattawat (James Ma) is a doctor whose mother has a gambling addiction, and Anusaniya's (Kimberley) family owns a wealthy company. Sattawat's mother owes a lot of money to Anusaniya's company, and in order to erase the debt, Sattawat's mother (Mam) and Anusaniya's aunt (Fon) cook up a plan to marry Sattawat and Anusaniya to each other to get rid of the debt. Anusaniya's half-uncle, Chayakorn (Pop), breaks up with his girlfriend, Somika (Namcha), and reveals his love for Anusaniya. Anusaniya, not wanting Chayakorn to have any hope, agrees to marry Sattawat. Desperate Somika falls for Sattawat but finds out that he belongs to Anusaniya, her greatest rival. In vengeance, Somika tries everything to split the couple.

  • This is binge-worthy. No really, just consider binging it if you want to watch it. I remember when I picked this lakorn up, I stayed up till 9 AM watching it.

  • James Ma is eye candy. Pop is eye candy x2. Judo is eye candy x3. Dad Montree is soul-warming. You literally have all the quality men you could need in a drama!

  • If you're tired of Rich Man x Poor Woman. The female lead is the rich one here.
  • Somika is in my "Top 10 Most Shameless SFL" list.  She just would not let go. She tried almost everything just to get Sattawat.

  • Chaya (The uncle) was in love with his half-niece. I know that it can be disgusting for some of you.

  • If you're a super ambitious female who values and prides your academic accomplishments, then please be warned that in the end, the female lead throws away 2 Harvard degrees to be a stay at home wife to her doctor husband on an island. To some of you, that might be totally okay — but to others... well, you are informed lol.

  • You will want to slap the FL a lot of times. This drama is "I'm on the ML's side" drama.

Episodes: 14
Duration: 1hr 30min
Genre: Romance, Drama

Introduction:

This lakorn is about honour and pride. Khun Ying Ai (Prem) is a royalty descendant. She was taught by her father that ancestry is the most important thing in life. Her mother remarried a new emergent wealthy Chinese businessman, Jao Sua (Moo), to pay off the family debt after her father's death.

Due to Khun Ying Ai's social prejudice and her father's death, she refused to accept this marriage as well as associate herself with a Chinese family for she deems them as unworthy to be a part of her royal bloodline.

Impressed and outraged by Khun Ying Ai's arrogant, strong will, and with a desire to protect her from harm due to her adopted uncle attempting to murder her, Jao Sua then wants a marriage between her and his youngest son, Ram (Alex). However, his oldest son, Rarp (Great), wants to marry Khun Ying Ai instead. Can a marriage born out of this hate really work? And will Rarp be able to soften Ai's heart?

  • This one is for the strong-willed folks. I know not everyone likes to watch sweet and cuddly, so this one is for the ones who like angst and temper inducing dramas.

  • Pseudo-incest. Her stepdad is literally trying to marry her off to her step-brothers.

  • Disgusting ML. He has a girlfriend in the beginning, who he breaks up with even though she is pregnant. Then he wants to marry the FL, but when he does, he can't even treat her right.

Episodes: 17
Duration: 1hr 5min
Genre: Romance, Drama, Comedy, Historical

Introduction:

Boom (Janie) and Neung (Ken) were childhood enemies.  Neung always bullied Boom because she was chubby. However, they lost contact somewhere along the line. Years later, when they meet, Neung doesn't realize that the beautiful girl in front of him is the same old chubby Boom. Boom, on the other hand, still dislikes Neung with a passion, trying her best to avoid him at all costs. Thus begins a push and pull sort of love story.

Episodes: 15
Duration: 1hr 50min
Genre: Romance, Drama, Comedy

Introduction:

Muey (Mew)has been in love with her next-door neighbour Thien (Mark) ever since she was in high school. Several years have passed, and Muey is still loyal in her selfless love.
When Thien, who is now an architect, finds himself in an entanglement with a mafia's wife and under pressure claims Muey to be his fiancee, Thien's mother (
Duangta) arranges for Thien and Muey to marry at the latest in order to help her son get out of this life-threatening mess.
And so begins a love story between a sweet and selfless Muey, and an arrogant and oblivious Thien.
  • It's really binge-worthy. If not for the fact that I was watching this while it was still airing, I would finish this drama within a day or two.

  • Muey's love is so adorable and wholesome, it makes me cry. She doesn't expect a single thing from Thien. Even when they marry, she is completely aware that one day all this will end and she will have to walk away. Still, she does everything she can for Thien, and she prays for him and wishes him well. I- *chokes on tears*

  • When Thien began falling in love with Muey, it was extremely adorable to see. No matter what I think of Mark as a person, he's a really good actor.

  • The OST is very hip and trendy.

  • Post-production and cinematography were very beautiful. They must have had a big budget for this project.

  • All the side characters — save the mafia and his wife — were enjoyable to watch. Especially Thien's friends.
  • The only thing I was the least bit impressed with was the fact that in the end, it boiled down to the same old formula.

Girl falls for the guy.

Guy and girl have to marry.

Guy begins to fall for the girl.

Girl becomes adamant to leave.

Bonus if there is a pregnancy.
 ▼

A few months later, the guy shows up at her door.

Begins wooing her.

She agrees.

Everyone is happy. The end.

All the dramas that were mentioned in this article are either something that I have finished, am watching, or have captured my interest and so I plan to watch in the future.

Please note that the tag "arranged marriage" is not the same as "forced marriage" and “marriage of convenience”, so I will have an article for those tags too.

I hope that through this article, you were able to find something new to watch, and I hope you liked reading this article.  Let me know what your favourite "arranged marriage" lakorn is in the comments section. See you again! ^‿^
